Warlock pets are able to soak every Hateful Charge casted from Smashspite the hateful as long as the targeted player stays behind the pet. The ability says in the tooltip itself that it impacts the first player he comes into contact with https://www.wow-freakz.com/spells.php?spell=198080&name=hateful-charge
