1. Introduction:

This guide will be for all the three hunter specs. But, first of all, let's get some things clear:

- Hunter is a very complex class in PVP, it takes a lot of time to master it.
- Being a good hunter in PVP it doesn't all resume to land a CC via Scatter & Trap or Interrupting a cast while winning the arena/duel and so on.
- The four keys in Playing a Hunter at a High/Higher level are:
Movement, Cooldowns Usage, Focus Management and Pet Positioning/Usage.
- In MOP, the hunter class will be more powerful than in the latest expansions.

** This guide is dedicated for all types of players, from beginners to good/best players. **

2. Important changes that occurred between Cataclysm & MOP:

- No Minimum Range: minimum range is going away in Mists of Pandaria. As a hunter now, you can use/cast your ranged abilities while near an enemy as well as you can from five yards away.
- No Melee Weapons: in MoP hunters will equip ranged weapons and melee weapons in the same slot. Hunters are still able to equip 2-handed melee weapons and dual wield 1-handed melee weapons, but doing so means that you won't be able to equip a gun, bow, or crossbow.
- Stat Changes & Expertise: In Mists of Pandaria hunter's ranged attacks will be able to be dodged, which means that you will want to go after the expertise stat, and stack it up to the dodge cap.
- *Mastery*: Base mastery now, was changed from 8% to 16%.
- Readiness has been removed. No more cooldown resetter.

3. Races & their racials:

** Only the better/best PvP racials will be posted **

Human:

Human is the best PvP racial choice from both horde/alliance.
Every Man for Himself - This racial works as a PvP trinket that removes all movement impairing effects and all effects which cause loss of control of your character. Playing as human will allow you to use two PvP dps trinkets instead of using 1 pvp trinket + 1 dps trinket. This is a huge plus to your class.

Night Elf:

Shadowmeld - This spell grants you Invisibility as long as you don't move to cancel the effect. If used with caution you can evade spells that are used against you, not only casted spells, but instant spells too; It's just about timing it. Also, the spell itself will cancel your combat state when used correctly.
Quickness - Increases your chance to dodge enemy melee/ranged attacks by 2%

Worgen:

Viciousness - Increases critical strike chance by 1%.
Darkflight - Increases current movement speed by an additional 40% for 10 seconds. It helps really well when you want to kite an enemy or run away.

Orc:

Second best race after Human, so, it will be the best from Horde side.
Blood Fury - Increases your attack power by 4,514 for 15 seconds.
Command - Damage dealt by your pets increased by 2%.
Hardiness - Duration of Stun effects reduced by an additional 15%.

Troll:

Dead Eye - Expertise with guns, bows, and crossbows increased by 1%.
Berserking - Increases ranged haste by 20% for 10 seconds.
Da Voodoo Shuffle - Reduces the duration of all movement impairing effects(slows/roots) by 15%

Undead:

Will of the Forsaken - Removes any Charm, Fear and Sleep effect. This effect shares a 30 sec cooldown with other similar effects(PvP Trinkets).
Touch of the Grave - Your attacks and damaging spells have a chance to drain the target, dealing % Shadow damage and healing you for the same amount. '' % '' represents a number. Example: Deals 15000 damage, and it heals you for the same amount.

4. Talents:

Tier I - Movement:

Posthaste: - Your Disengage frees you from all movement impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 60% for 8 seconds.

Narrow Escape: - When you Disengage, you also activate a web trap which encases all targets within yards in sticky webs, preventing movement for 8 seconds.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera: - Reduces the cooldown of Disengage by 10 sec, and the cooldown of Deterrence by 60 sec.

Final Decision: Posthaste will remove your root/slow effects and also give you a free sprint for 8 seconds. Narrow Escape can help you while trapping and also with a melee target. Both are really good choices, it depends on the comp/player(s) you are facing.
** Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera is good only when is combined with
Glyph of Liberation **

Tier II - Crowd Control:

Binding Shot: - You fire a magical projectile, tethering the enemy and any other enemies within 5 yards of the landing arrow for 10 sec. If targets move 5 yards from the arrow they are stunned for 5 seconds (3 sec PvP) and will be immune to the effects of Binding Shot for 10 seconds.

Wyvern Sting: - A stinging shot that puts the target to sleep for 30 seconds. Any damage will cancel the effect. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on the target at a time.

Intimidation: - Command your pet to intimidate the target, stunning it for 3 seconds.

Final Decision: Binding Shot is a great talent since it can help you trapping, Kiting, and also when preventing someone from taking your trap.(Still, use it with caution since it shares DR with other Stun Effects @ while playing arenas with your partener(s). Wyvern Sting is also a good choice, it can help many times; It depends on the comp you are facing/playstyle.

Tier III - Survivability:

Exhilaration: - Instantly heals you for 30% and your pet for 100% of total health.

Aspect of the Iron Hawk: - The Hunter takes on the aspects of an iron hawk, increasing ranged attack power by 25%, and reducing all damage taken by 10%. Replaces Aspect of the Hawk.

Spirit Bond: - While your pet is active, you and your pet will regenerate 3% of total health every 2 sec.

Final Decision: Spirit Bond is the better choice here(also, combined with Glyph of Animal Bond is far better) , but it depends on the comp you are facing pretty much(arena), if you have problems in taking high amounts of damage you should better use Iron Hawk(you could also discuss with your healer about this). Exhilaration is a bit useless since it's CD is 2 minutes.

Tier IV - Focus Management:

Fervor: - Instantly restores 50 Focus to you and your pet and an additional 50 Focus over 10 seconds.

Dire Beast: - Summons a powerful wild beast to attack your target for 15 seconds. Each time the beast deals damage, you will gain 5 Focus.

Thrill of the Hunt: - You have a 30% chance when you fire a ranged attack that costs Focus or Kill Command to reduce the Focus cost of your next 3 Arcane Shots or Multi-Shots by 20.

Final Decision: Thrill of the Hunt is the best choice here, also it will help you while killing shaman's totems. Since you will spam Arcane Shots pretty much, neither one of the other two talents will be good. Fervor can be helpful only if you are playing an comp that is based on bursting damage in opener, for example Thug Cleave (Rogue, Hunter / Healer).

Tier V - Pet:

A Murder of Crows: - Summons a flock of crows to attack your target over the next 30 seconds. If used on a target below 20% health, the cooldown is reduced to 60 seconds.

Blink Strikes: - Your pet's Basic Attacks deal 50% increased damage, can now be used from 30 yards away, and will instantly teleport them behind their target.

Lynx Rush: - Your pet rapidly charges from target to target, attacking 9 times over 4 seconds. Each attack causes the target to bleed for % damage over 15 seconds, stacking up to 9 times. The pet must be within 10 yards of the target to Lynx Rush. '' % '' being a number.

Final Decision: A murder of Crows is the best choice for Marksmanship/Survival, while for Beast Mastery you can go with Blink Strikes for higher pet damage(the teleport from Blink Strikes has 20 seconds internal CD).

Tier VI - Special Abilities:

Glaive Toss: - You hurl two glaives toward a target, each dealing 872 (+20% AP) damage to each enemy struck and reducing movement speed by 30% for 3 seconds. The primary target will take 4 times as much damage from each strike. The Glaives will return back to you, damaging and snaring targets again as they return.

Powershot: - You wind up a powerful shot, which deals 600% weapon damage to the target and 300% weapon damage to all enemies in between you and the target. Enemies hit by Powershot are also knocked back.

Barrage: - Rapidly fire a spray of shots forward for 3 seconds, dealing a total of 640% weapon damage to the enemy target and an average of 320% weapon damage to each other enemy target in front of you. Useable while moving.

Final Decision: Glaive Toss is by far the best option. Powershot is good only in Battlegrounds or for fun for its knockback; for arenas i don't recommend it since it has huge a cast time + a big cooldown. Barrage could be a Survival option but since it breaks your CC's, you should better remain at Glaive Toss.

5. Glyphs:

Major Glyphs:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Glyph of Solace: Your Freezing Trap and Scatter Shot also remove all damage over time effects from their targets. < - Must have glyph.

Glyph of Explosive Trap: Your Explosive Trap no longer deals damage, instead knocking enemies back from the trap when it explodes. < - Must have glyph.

** Now for the third Major Glyph you will have to choose between(Both Camouflage Glyph & Animal Bond are greater choices, it depends on which comp/class you are facing since you want to play with one of them): **

Glyph of Animal Bond: While your pet is active, all healing done to you and your pet is increased by 10%.

Glyph of Camouflage: Your Camouflage ability now provides stealth even while moving, but your movement speed while Camouflage is active is reduced by 50%.

Glyph of Master's Call: Increases the duration of your Master's Call by 4 sec. (Since minimum range was removed.. this glyph won't be a smart choice if you don't have problems with melee classes)

Glyph of Liberation: When you Disengage, you are healed for 5% of your total health.(As i wrote above, this glyph combined with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera will boost your survivability.

Minor Glyphs:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Glyph of Aspect of the Cheetah: Your Aspect of the Cheetah no longer causes you to be dazed when struck. Instead, the effect is cancelled and all your Aspects are placed on a 4 sec cooldown.

Glyph of Revive Pet: Reduces the pushback suffered from damaging attacks while casting Revive Pet by 100%.

Glyph of Stampede: Your Stampede no longer summons pets from your stable, and instead uses copies of your current pet. < - Very Important if you are Beast Mastery and you are playing with a Spirit Beast (If you will use Spirit Mend while Stampede is UP you will receive 5 healing buffs on you, healing yourself for a high amount.)

6. Enchants, Reforges, Professions & Gems:

Enchants:

- Ranged Weapon: Living Steel Weapon Chain - Reduces the duration of Disarm effects by 60% and increasing your expertise by 200. // Enchant Weapon: Glorious Tyranny
** or ** : Lord Blastington's Scope of Doom - Sometimes increasing Agility by 1800 for 10 sec when dealing damage with ranged attacks. (Switch to a Ranged Weapon(since you can change weapons in combat) with this enchant only after you got disarmed or play with it against a team that doesn't have disarm abilities).
- Cloak: Enchant Cloak - Superior Critical Strike - Permanently enchants a cloak to increase critical strike by 180. / Enchant Cloak - Lesser Power - Increases PvP Power by 56. / Swordguard Embroidery - 4000 Attack Power based on a 15 second proc.
- Chest: Enchant Chest - Super Resilience - Increases PvP Resilience by 200.
- Boots: Enchant Boots - Blurred Speed - Increases movement speed slightly and Agility by 140.
- Gloves: Enchant Gloves - Superior Mastery - Increases mastery by 170.
- Legs/Pants: Shadowleather Leg Armor - Increases Agility by 285 and critical strike by 165.
- Shoulders: Greater Tiger Claw Inscription - Adds 200 Agility and 100 critical strike to a shoulder slot item.
- Bracer: Enchant Bracer - Greater Agility - Increases Agility by 170.
- Belt: Living Steel Belt Buckle - Adds an extra socket slot to the belt.

Reforges:

Hit Cap: Make sure to reach 3%(the hit cap for a hunter in PVP)
Expertise Cap: The same as Hit Cap, 3%, if you don't want to get your traps resisted or get your ranged attacks dodged by the enemy.
Rest of them: Critical-> Mastery-> Haste( Don't Reforge Haste into Mastery or vice-versa, do it only if your items contain critical already.)
As Beast Mastery you should go Mastery-> Critical-> Haste.

Professions:

There are many various professions combinations, depends on how do you want to play. With Passive Bonuses being based on a bit higher stats/RNG, or with on-use bonuses for a higher burst.

Blacksmithing + Engineering (Blacksmith offers 2x extra socket slots(on gloves & bracers)
Tailoring + Blacksmithing (Tailoring offers an enchant with a proc chance; The enchant giving you 4000 attack power for 15 seconds.
Engineering + Tailoring (Engineering offering various fun devices; But most important, it offers an gloves enchant(that stacks with your current normal enchant) Increasing your agility by 1920 for 10 sec.(Synapse Springs
Skinning + Jewelcrafting(or Enchanting) While Enchanthing offers you two ring enchants each of them increasing your agility by 160(So, 160x2 = 320 agility bonus). With Jewelcrafting you can use 2 Serpent's Eye gems as sockets increasing your agility by 160/(each of the two gems).
(All of the following professions can be combined between them).

Gems:

Green/Yellow/Orange: Vivid Wild Jade or 3x Deadly Vermilion Onyx in yellow slots.
Red: Delicate Primordial Ruby or Delicate Serpent's Eye if you have Jewelcrafting.
Blue: Stormy River's Heart
Meta: Tyrannical Primal Diamond or Agile Primal Diamond if you don't have the Tyrannical one.

7. Macros:

IMPORTANT: **If any of your macros will appear with their icon being ''black'', just type in the macro near ''#showtooltip'' type there the name of the spell you are using with that macro.
Also, to clear out the mystery of that much ''/stopcasting'' in all of the macros, /stopcasting is being used that much now in MoP because aspect of the Fox has been removed so, now you can cast Steady Shot while moving with every aspect, and if you are casting and you want to use an spell you won't be able to do that, so that's why you need those macros with /stopcasting. Same story with Glyph of Aimed Shot (if you will use it).

- Party/Arena Partener(s) macros:
** You can change the ''party1 or party2'' from the macro with the name of your partener(s) if you have problems with party1/party2 macros. **

8. Hunter Kiting:

Kiting is essential as a hunter, and is the lesson that every hunter should learn when he first starts the game.
*There are various ways of Kiting:
- Dead Zone -> for example staying in warrior's close range to prevent him from Charging you and also at the same time you are trying to stay away from his hits. Short explanation: Staying in a warrior's dead zone is staying in a range higher than 5 yards and lower than 8. Higher than 5 to prevent his melee hits, lower than 8 to prevent him from charging you.
- Kiting by taking advantage with your slow / root / cc abilities.
*** Kiting will mostly(in 90% of the cases) be used when the target is slowed so you can move faster than him(if you're not slowed too).
*** While Kiting you can / will: 1. Resist more; 2. Not die 3. Wait for your partener(s) CC to end so he/they can help/heal you, or you can kite the enemy while waiting for some of your CD's to be available again.
*** Kiting as a hunter is an easy thing since you are a ranged class, you can easily profit from slowing your target while doing damage on him same time.

9. Hunter Trapping:

As a hunter in PVP traps are very important.
I. ** You have 4 types of traps(Each of them lasts for 1 minute): **

Freezing Trap - Keeps the enemy CC-ed for 8 seconds.(in PVP). Breaks from damage.
Ice Trap - Within 10 yards, players will be slowed by 50% while in the area of effect.
Explosive Trap - An aoe trap that deals fire damage, within 10 yards. (Combined with the Glyph of Explosive trap it will transform the trap into an Knockback effect without doing damage.)
Snake Trap - A trap that will release several venomous snakes to attack the player. The snakes can apply many poisons to the target(such as 30% increased cast time, 50% reduced slow speed, damage over time debuff).

II. ** There are many ways to get a Freezing Trap on an enemy in Arena or Dueling/Battleground,the ways are the following: **

1. Trapping after a Scatter Shot.
2. Trapping after a Bad Manner(Monkey Blind) or Lullaby(Crane Stun).
3. Trapping after an Concussive Shot. (This is a bit harder than the first two, because you will need to know the direction of your target that u want to trap, and when he's slowed and he moves into that direction, throw the trap into his face and he will get it). If not executed correctly, your target can escape easily.
4. Trapping after an CC from your parteners such as Cyclone, Hammer of Justice, Repentance, Bash(Bear stun), Blind, Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot, Gouge, Sap, etc.
5. Trapping when the player stays in place and casts an spell. This is the hardest way possible, you have like 50% chances to miss this trap if you want to try this way, it's very risky, but it works if the player forgets to move faster away.
6. (SURVIVAL SPEC ONLY) Trapping after Entrapment(Root). For example, Place Snake Trap near the target and then use Freezing Trap; The target won't move since it will be rooted, so, it will take the trap.

III. **With Glyph of Explosive Trap in MoP you can profit from many things, such as:

- Knocking people away from their parteners/their healer and so on.
- Knocking people off the bridge or the healer into loss of their partener(s).
- The Knockback doesn't break the Freezing Trap!
- Pro Tip: Also, if you want to trap after an Explosive Trap, just use it with caution. You need to slow or /cc the target and then throw your explosive trap.. and synchronize his knockback and throw a Freezing Trap into that way.

-- REMEMBER: If you want to trap after an cyclone u must wait until the duration of the cyclone will be 1.5 or 1 sec. Keep in mind that traps need 1 second to arm after they land. You can loose your trap easily if you don't do this correctly.
-- Also, Repentance, Gouge, Sap, Paralysis shares DR with Freezing Trap; Your target will stay in trap for only 4 seconds after one of those CC's if you use the trap immediately after one of them without waiting the DR.
Keep in mind too, that if your opponents are good enough, they will try to take your traps for their parteners to save them from being CC'ed. You can stop/prevent them by using Concussive Shot, Entrapment Root, Monkey Blind, Lullaby, Wyvern Sting and even Scatter Shot. For example you will try to Monkey Blind / Lullaby the enemy that wants to take the trap, and in that time you will Scatter-> Trap his healer, or Root the enemy with trap and Scatter-> Trap the healer.

10. Arena Comps & Playstyle:

Arena Comps available for hunter:

2v2:

-Hunter / Holy Priest - Resilient comp with lots of Cc's, and actually one of the strongest Hunter Comps in MOP.
-Hunter / Warrior
-Hunter / Rogue - High damage, decent CC, a comp with a big chance of success on the 2v2 ladder.
-Hunter / Restoration Druid
-Hunter / Death Knight

3v3:

-Hunter / Warrior / Holy Priest(or Restoration Druid/Mistweaver Monk)
-Hunter / Rogue / Restoration Shaman(or Mistweaver Monk)
-Hunter / Feral Druid / Restoration Shaman(or Mistweaver Monk)
-Hunter / Affliction Warlock / Restoration Druid(or Restoration Shaman)
-Hunter / Death Knight / Mistweaver Monk(orRestoration Shaman)

Playstyle:

** Do not panic, especially in arenas, doing that will only bring you more negative thoughts. Thinking Negatively will slowly and slowly destroy your gameplay mood, and eventually will result in losses.
** Never rely on your damage, by trying to spam/burn all cds from the start(in arenas especially); If your opponents are good enough they will just play defensively or they will try to prevent your damage, until your cd's are gone, then you can lose easily.
** Don't Backpedal. This is one of the most important things if you want to succeed as a hunter. Go into your keybinds and remove the S key; By doing that it will also grant you 4 new binds (S, shift + S, and ctrl+ S, alt + S). Yes, it will take some time to get used to that, but playing a class that uses kite as its advantage needs soft movement and not to be slowed by walking backwards.
** Mentality is everything. If you have a good & positive mindset and you can sync with your parteners when needed, you will become better and better.
** PvP Trinket usage. One of the biggest problems in PvP. It should be used with caution & knowledge, you should know and understand really well when to trinket and what will/can happen if you trinket. You should know and understand that, if you use your trinket, the enemy team can profit and counter it with another CC ability; Don't use it on the first CC that you will receive; Do that only when is needed.

11. Addons:

JS Hunter Bar: - An really complexe and useful addon with multiple functions like Hunter CD's Tracker/Procs/Pet stacks, buffs.
Quartz: - Regular addon for cast bars.Customizable.
Gladius: - Arena Frames addon with multiple functions like Enemy trinket cooldown, and so on.
Juked: - An addon that tracks enemy cooldowns, can also be customized if you want to track only some specific spells.
NeedToKnow: - Addon for tracking ICD of trinkets/items/procs.. also customizable for buffs, debuffs and many other things.

12. Pet Related:

--Since every pet now can have its own specialization, pets for MM/SV won't matter that much anymore like on previous patch. Still, for gameplay preference you can go with Crane, Fox (or Goat), / Spider / Nether Ray. Note that Fox & Goats are only good when you are facing caster teams --For buffs go for Cat / Wolf, Wind Serpent, Hyena. Crane And Monkey got nerfed(CD of Lullaby/Bad Manner being increased from 1 minute to 2 minutes since patch 5.3.0)But they are still useful. Don't forget that you can use your pets to buff yourself in the arena Preparation time (when the timer will be at 15 seconds before the gates will be opened), use your pets that can buff you party and then use the pet you want to play with.
--The Specialization will be Cunning, for the Roar of Sacrifice.
--As BM instead, you should go for a Shale Spider or any Spirit Beast.
--Pets will also share expertise with you. So, 3% expertise cap will help your pet from not doing any dodge or parry to the target.
** An detailed list with the pet abilities/buffs **

** Without an pet out, you are 50% exposed to the enemy. Try everytime to keep your pet up and to not let it die. **
** Being on Cunning, the pet will be able to provide you with Roar of Sacrifice. You can use it on you, or your parteners ( the macros for it are in the macro section in this guide). It will provide you / your parteners with crit immunity for 12 seconds, so, for 12 seconds you or the person on who you use it will be immune to critical strikes. **
** Also, while playing with an Nether Ray for example, you can position your pet( by using the Move To command) near the target you want to kick / interrupt its cast. And then when the target casts an spell or you want to pre-kick / interrupt the next spell, use Nether Shock; So, you will prevent that spell from being used at that time. **
** While dueling or even in BG situations where you can change your pet you will always have the opportunity to buff yourself with pets like Cat / Wolfs to have better stats before you start the duel or your opener in BG. **

13. Focus Management:

- One of the most important things and the hardest one to master if you want to become a better hunter .
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

- Spamming abilities for damage to clear all of your focus thinking that doing this is good is not recommended!
- Focus management is based on serveral things:
I. Using your damaging abilities and pre-maintaining your focus for the next abilities that will come off the cooldown.
II. Using Steady/Cobra shots
ONLY to get the amount of focus you need and not to fill out your bar for an useful reason.
III. Calculate your remaining focus and use/keep it in function of which ability will come off your cooldown next.

EX 1: I am at 35 focus and my Chimera Shot will come off cooldown in 1 second. So, instead of wasting my focus on spamming any other ability than the main priority one, i will be waiting for my Chimera Shot(since 35 focus is near its cost and was 1 more second remaining from its CD).
EX 2: I am at 15 focus and i want to use my Chimera to finish my target quickly, i will line up 1 Steady Shot and then i'll use Chimera Shot instantly after so that i can maintain the pressure or kill my target.

** Focus management is based on a simple math, if you do your calculations correctly from your mind, like from the last example ( 15 focus + 14 from Steady Shot + self focus regen)it will result in the amount of focus i used for that Chimera) **
When you will get used to those calculations, you will see that not just that your damage has grown, but your attention level, and others have grown too.

14. Keybinds:

W, A, D are for movement. Space is for Jumping.
Closer binds for abilities: Q, E, Z, X, C, S, R, T, F, G, V, B, H, Y, `(console), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Modifier binds: Shift, Alt, Ctrl. (Those binds can also be combined with others resulting in an combination bind, for example shift+ 1 and so on) to make more keybindings.
Targetting bind: TAB
Keybinds that are useful but might be harder to reach for people with short hand or short fingers: 7, N, U, J, M, I, O, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5.

** Try not to bind all your spells at once (if you are an starter player or you just switched after some wow experience from being a clicker to having keybinds). **
** Keybindings will help you in using your abilities at the time of a button press, and also it will enhance your gameplay and you will became much faster **
** WinKey or CapsLock can also be binded if you know how to deactivate them from Windows. (It is not necessary to bind them if you don't want to spend time in deactivating them.)
** Keybindings are also affected by the following setting:

Going to wow interface - > Combat - > and checking or unchecking the setting named: Cast action keybinds on key down. ( With this on, if you press the bind, the spell will be used exactly when you pressed it, not after you release your finger from the bind.)**
** You can also bind your spells to the mouse buttons, if you have an gaming mouse with 5 or more buttons. **

15. End.

If there are any questions, just ask in the comments. I usually don't focus on ''images'', i let my facts speak for themselves. That's why the guide may look too hard-written.

Nice guide btw, everything seems to be in order of importance. Maybe you could have talked more about the potential of disc compared to holy. Inexperienced priests trying out this comp reading your guide might not be used to their chastise combos with trapping. Could have also mentioned MC into trap.

Good one overall tho.
