Skinning serves in providing the materials necessary for Leatherworking. So it is highly recommended to pick both of them at the same time, but it is not necessary. These materials can be gathered through slaying and skinning beasts you encounter in the game.

NOTE: To skin a creature you will first need to loot everything it drops. Only then you will be able to skin it.

It also provides a neat passive: Master of Anatomy which increases your critical strike rating by 480.


Here is your simple-steps-list before you start:
First step - go to any of your faction cities, ask a guard, and learn Skinning.
Second step - buy a Skinning Knife and keep it in your bag, as you will need it in order to skin beasts.
Third Step - Make sure you have a lot of bag space, as your bags will fill up rapidly! Something that helps is buying the Reins of the Travaler's Tundra Mammoth so you can sell the looted items from mobs easier!


OPTIONAL - buy items, enchants, which will boost your skinning skill, or help with gathering.
Some items can replace your Skinning Knife:
- Bladed Pickaxe
- Finle's Skinner
- Zulian Slicer
- Zulian Slasher
- Gnomish Army Knife (one of the best items in the game given its uses!)
Other useful items:
- Bag of Many Hides can hold all your skinned products;
- Enchant Gloves - Gatherer & Enchant Gloves - Skinning will give you a +5, allowing you to change zones that much sooner, if you're in a rush;
- Forager's Gloves for a faster gathering speed in Pandaria.


PLEASE NOTE: While you go around Azeroth and skin creatures, you will be able to see that before you skin them, the tooltip will show the level of skill you will gain after you skin it. There are 5 different levels represented by 5 different colors. These colors are:

Red - Not enough skill to skin.
Orange - 100% chance to increase your skinning skill.
Yellow - 75% chance to increase your skinning skill.
Green - 50% chance to increase your skinning skill.
Gray - 0% chance to increase your skinning skill.

Skill 1 - 75 - Apprentice Skinner
Skill 75 - 150 - Journeyman Skinner
Skill 150 - 225 - Expert Skinner
Skill 225 - 300 - Artisan Skinner
Skill 300 - 350 - Master Skinner
Skill 350 - 450 - Grand Master Skinner
Skill 450 - 525 - Illustrious Grand Master Skinner
Skill 525 - 600 - Zen Master Skinner

The zones or the mobs are wrong... Each time that I try to follow the guide the mobs require more than the skin level that said... I think (after research on wowhead too) that a lot of mobs have wrong required skill: for example

Skinning from 300 - 330
Zone: Hellfire Peninsula
Creatures: Ravagers, Helboars

Ravagers require 350
Helboars require 310

Hi,

Good guide. Should i add that the level of a creature can affect your ability to skin it or not especially when you start to grind in a new area, for instance when i flew to Outlands i started to skin those fel boars but at first i could only skin lv60 ones until 305 where i could start skinning those lv61 and so on.

Also, i don't know if this is legit or not but to finish my skinning levelling, i went on timeless isle and checked if i could do something there and it turns out that the big turtles on the shore where you land after taking the fly are skinnable but the most broken thing i witnessed is that even those i didn't kill at all rewarded me some timeless coins after skinning them. Is this legit ?

hello this is off topic i know but i couldnt find any links or topics or a clear description soo......

the thing is i got Fire spirit from a blingtron.....it says it boost an of the learned primary profession but its unclear as to what lvl does it boosts....is it zen master ....i tried google but it seems its a freaks special item
and on freaks item finder its not mentioned as to what the actual boost would be..so if any one here could tell me what is the boost value i would be greatfull thanks
