Daca cineva este bolnav, el poate afla de la Calandrinon daca va trai sau va muri. Astfel, daca boala omului este fatala, Calandrinon isi intoarce privirea de la cel bolav de indata ce il vede, si toata lumea va sti ca omul va muri. Calandrinon il reprezinta pe Mantuitorul nostru. Domnul nostru este pur, alb, fara urma de negru, "care n-a savarsit nici un pacat, nici s-a aflat viclesug in gura Lui" (1 Petru, 2:22). Mai mult decat atat, Domnul si-a intors privirea de la evrei, deoarece ei nu au crezut in El, si a privit inspre noi, paganii, mantuindu-ne de slabiciuni si pacate; urcat sus pe cruce si privind spre cer, "a robit robime si a dat daruri oamenilor" ( Efesieni 4:8 ).

In fiecare zi Hristos, precum Calandrinon, ne este alaturi la boli, ne cerceteaza gandurile cand ne spovedim, si ii vindeca pe cei carora le arata harul mantuirii. Insa isi intoarce privirea de la cei ale caror inimi stie ca nu se caiesc. Pe acestia ii indeparteaza, insa pe cei spre care isi intoarce din nou privirea, ii reintregeste.

S-ar zice ca, deoarece Calandrinon este impura dupa lege, nu ar trebui sa fie asemanata cu Hristos. Insa Ioan spune despre Dumnezeu: "Asa cum Moise a ridicat sarpele in pustiu, la fel trebuie ca si Fiul Domnului sa se ridice" (4:14); si, dupa lege, "sarpele insa era cel mai viclean dintre toate fiarele de pe pamant, pe care le facuse Domnul Dumnezeu" (Geneza, 3:1). Leul si Vulturul sunt impure, si cu toate astea sunt asemanate cu Hristos, datorita rangului lor regal, deoarece leul este regele fiarelor, iar vulturul regele pasarilor.
