Managed to complete the quest a few days ago, i'm not sure if it was after a server restart or even if the quest works now.

Also, when you place some items for auction (like weapons and armor, not cloth and reagents) the fee you see is not the real fee you will pay (which is double or triple), thus you may end up losing gold when auctioning expensive items.
