1. Introduction:

This guide will be based only on the Beast Mastery Spec and its traits; Firstly, let's talk a bit about the guide itself:

- As we all know, hunter is one of the hardest classes to master, and when i'm saying ''master'' i am talking about playing the hunter class at a decent/high level, where things like
movement / focus management and procs tracking come in.
- The guide is designed to help the beginners, people that just jumped from Cataclysm to MoP and even the people that already played MoP.

** The guide contains also some little info that other hunter guides may contain(but i repeat, just some little information; 2-3 words;). **

2. Important changes that occurred between Cataclysm & MOP:

- No Minimum Range: minimum range is going away in Mists of Pandaria. As a hunter now, you can use/cast your ranged abilities while near an enemy as well as you can from five yards away. So, if you need to stay stacked at the boss, you can stay without any problem, since you can now hit the target while being near it.
- No Melee Weapons: in MoP hunters will equip ranged weapons and melee weapons in the same slot. Hunters are still able to equip 2-handed melee weapons and dual wield 1-handed melee weapons, but doing so means that you won't be able to equip a gun, bow, or crossbow.
- Stat Changes & Expertise: In Mists of Pandaria hunter's ranged attacks will be able to be dodged, which means that you will want to go after the expertise stat, and stack it up to the dodge cap.
- *Mastery*: Base mastery now, was changed from 8% to 16%.

3. Races & their racials:

** Only the better/best PvE racials will be posted **

Pandaren:

Epicurean - Your love of food allows you to receive double the stats from Well Fed effects. EX: Instead of 275 passive agility from Well Fed you will receive 550.

Worgen:

Viciousness - Increases critical strike chance by 1%.

Dwarf:

Crack Shot - Expertise with ranged weapons increased by 1%.

Troll:

Dead Eye - Expertise with guns, bows, and crossbows increased by 1%.
Berserking - Increases ranged haste by 20% for 10 seconds.

Orc:

Both Troll and Orc are at their best, but Orc is the second one after Troll, because Troll offers a slightly more dps increase(between 250-300) than Orc.
Blood Fury - Increases your attack power by 4,514 for 15 seconds.
Command - Damage dealt by your pets increased by 2%.

Goblin:

Time is Money - Increases your attack speed and spell haste by 1%.

4. Talents:

Tier I - Movement:

Posthaste: - Your Disengage frees you from all movement impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 60% for 8 seconds.

Narrow Escape: - When you Disengage, you also activate a web trap which encases all targets within yards in sticky webs, preventing movement for 8 seconds.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera: - Reduces the cooldown of Disengage by 10 sec, and the cooldown of Deterrence by 60 sec.

Final Decision: Posthaste will help you in positioning faster at bosses when needed, and also when you need to reach a target faster in your encounter. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera & Narrow Escape are both useless here. Also, neither one of those talents will increase your DPS, so it's much of a ''tactical/strategy'' choice/preference.

Tier II - Crowd Control:

Binding Shot: - You fire a magical projectile, tethering the enemy and any other enemies within 5 yards of the landing arrow for 10 sec. If targets move 5 yards from the arrow they are stunned for 5 seconds (3 sec PvP) and will be immune to the effects of Binding Shot for 10 seconds.

Wyvern Sting: - A stinging shot that puts the target to sleep for 30 seconds. Any damage will cancel the effect. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on the target at a time.

Intimidation: - Command your pet to intimidate the target, stunning it for 3 seconds.

Final Decision: Intimidation and Wyvern Sting are both useless since they are single target spells only, they won't help you with anything much. Binding Shot is the obvious choice here since it helps really much when you are facing adds or a big group of mobs, the AOE Stun offers a mobility advantage to others. Still, the story is the same as the Tier I, those talents won't offer any dps increase.

Tier III - Survivability:

Exhilaration: - Instantly heals you for 30% and your pet for 100% of total health.

Aspect of the Iron Hawk: - The Hunter takes on the aspects of an iron hawk, increasing ranged attack power by 25%, and reducing all damage taken by 10%. Replaces Aspect of the Hawk.

Spirit Bond: - While your pet is active, you and your pet will regenerate 3% of total health every 2 sec.

Final Decision: Aspect of the Iron Hawk offers a 10% damage taken reduction which will help you survive more, and will also help your healers when they heal you. Exhilaration is mostly needed when/if the raid takes high amounts of damage; this spell having the chance of saving you from dying. Spirit Bond being pretty useless here, since it's more of a solo/leveling talent. The same thing as the Tier 1 and Tier 2 here too, those talents don't offer any dps increase.

Tier IV - Focus Management:

Fervor: - Instantly restores 50 Focus to you and your pet and an additional 50 Focus over 10 seconds.

Dire Beast: - Summons a powerful wild beast to attack your target for 15 seconds. Each time the beast deals damage, you will gain 5 Focus.

Thrill of the Hunt: - You have a 30% chance when you fire a ranged attack that costs Focus or Kill Command to reduce the Focus cost of your next 3 Arcane Shots or Multi-Shots by 20.

Final Decision: Fervor offers a focus boost to you and your pet. But it needs to be used with caution, you need to keep and eye on both, your focus and pet focus. You shouldn't use it when you are above 60-70 focus and your pet above 40-45~. This talent will have also a good use when used for some bursting AoE. Dire Beast is the best option for Single Target BM since the summoned pet gives you focus each time it deals damage and it scales exactly like your pet. Thrill of the Hunt will help you mostly when you will need AoE, but its RNG may trick you sometimes and you won't get the proc when needed. Also note that Fervor is a talent that can be seen at its maximum potential when you have BIS Gear.

Tier V - Pet:

A Murder of Crows: - Summons a flock of crows to attack your target over the next 30 seconds. If used on a target below 20% health, the cooldown is reduced to 60 seconds.

Blink Strikes: - Your pet's Basic Attacks deal 50% increased damage, can now be used from 30 yards away, and will instantly teleport them behind their target.

Lynx Rush: - Your pet rapidly charges from target to target, attacking 9 times over 4 seconds. Each attack causes the target to bleed for % damage over 15 seconds, stacking up to 9 times. The pet must be within 10 yards of the target to Lynx Rush. '' % '' being a number.

Final Decision: As BM, Blink Strikes is the most obvious choice here, since it gives your pet a 50% damage boost to Basic Attacks and the teleport for a better pet mobility. A Murder of Crows is also really good, but its cooldown and focus cost come into question; paired with Fervor they make a good choice, since you will need focus after you will use A Murder of Crows. Lynx Rush is not exactly that worthy. So, as BM you would choose between the other two(Blink Strikes or A Murder of Crows). From my PoV i'll go with Blink Strikes.

Tier VI - Special Abilities:

Glaive Toss: - You hurl two glaives toward a target, each dealing 872 (+20% AP) damage to each enemy struck and reducing movement speed by 30% for 3 seconds. The primary target will take 4 times as much damage from each strike. The Glaives will return back to you, damaging and snaring targets again as they return.

Powershot: - You wind up a powerful shot, which deals 600% weapon damage to the target and 300% weapon damage to all enemies in between you and the target. Enemies hit by Powershot are also knocked back.

Barrage: - Rapidly fire a spray of shots forward for 3 seconds, dealing a total of 640% weapon damage to the enemy target and an average of 320% weapon damage to each other enemy target in front of you. Useable while moving.

Final Decision: Glaive Toss is by far the better option for single target DPS, while Barrage is best suited for AoE when needed. Powershot cooldown & cast time are just making this ability worthless.

5. Glyphs:

Major Glyphs:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Glyph of Animal Bond: While your pet is active, all healing done to you and your pet is increased by 10%.

Glyph of Deterrence: Increases the damage reduction granted by Deterrence by 20%. If used when needed in a fight where the whole raid takes high damage, it will help the healers from your raid.

Glyph of Liberation: When you Disengage, you are healed for 5% of your total health.(This glyph combined with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera will boost your survivability.

Minor Glyphs:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Glyph of Stampede: Your Stampede no longer summons pets from your stable, and instead uses copies of your current pet.

Glyph of Revive Pet: Reduces the pushback suffered from damaging attacks while casting Revive Pet by 100%.

** None of those glyphs will increase your DPS. Glyphs aren't that important. **

6. Enchants, Reforges, Professions & Gems:

Enchants:

- Ranged Weapon: Lord Blastington's Scope of Doom - Sometimes increasing Agility by 1800 for 10 sec when dealing damage with ranged attacks.
- Cloak: Enchant Cloak - Superior Critical Strike - Permanently enchants a cloak to increase critical strike by 180. / Enchant Cloak - Accuracy - Increases Hit by 180. / Swordguard Embroidery - 4000 Attack Power based on a 15 second proc.
- Chest: Enchant Chest - Glorious Stats - Increases all your stats by 80.
- Shoulders: Greater Tiger Claw Inscription - Adds 200 Agility and 100 critical strike to a shoulder slot item.
- Bracer: Enchant Bracer - Greater Agility - Increases Agility by 170.
- Belt: Living Steel Belt Buckle - Adds an extra socket slot to the belt.
- Boots: Enchant Boots - Blurred Speed - Increases movement speed slightly and Agility by 140.
- Legs/Pants: Shadowleather Leg Armor - Increases Agility by 285 and critical strike by 165.
- Gloves: Enchant Gloves - Greater Haste - Increases Haste by 170.

Reforges:

Both Hit and Expertise should be capped at 7.5% first to prevent your attacks from being dodged and also, don't forget that your pet scales with expertise too. After doing that, the reforges are dividing into two different paths:
1. Crit->Haste->Mastery. This is the basic reforge for survival hunter too;
This path will be used until you will get the legendary cloak & the legendary meta socket.
2. Haste->Mastery/Crit. This will be the reforge priority when you will be BIS geared. Mastery and Crit on this priority could stay at an equal number or at an appropriate number between each other. Don't go too deeply into one of them.

Professions:

There are many various professions combinations, depends on how do you want to play. With Passive Bonuses being based on a bit higher stats/RNG, or with on-use bonuses for a higher burst.

Engineering - (Engineering offering various fun devices; But most important, it offers an gloves enchant(that stacks with your current normal enchant) Increasing your agility by 1920 for 10 sec.(Synapse Springs
Blacksmithing - (Blacksmith offers 2x extra socket slots(on gloves & bracers).
Tailoring - (Tailoring offers an enchant with a proc chance; The enchant giving you 4000 attack power for 15 seconds.
Jewelcrafting (or Enchanting) - Enchanting offers you two ring enchants each of them increasing your agility by 160. With Jewelcrafting you can use 2 Serpent's Eye gems as sockets increasing your agility by 160;(each of the two gems).

(All of the following professions can be combined between them).

Gems:

**Note that if the socket bonus isn't +60 agility, then use a normal red agility gem into that slot. If the bonus is +60 agility, then, put the required gem into that slot.

Red: Delicate Primordial Ruby or Delicate Serpent's Eye if you have Jewelcrafting.
Yellow: Deadly Vermilion Onyx
Blue: Glinting Imperial Amethyst
Meta: Capacitive Primal Diamond or Agile Primal Diamond (until you will get Capacitive Primal Diamond).

7. Consumables:

Potion: Virmen's Bite which increases your agility by 4000 for 25 seconds.
Flask: Flask of Spring Blossoms which increases your agility by 1000 for 1 hour. (or by 1320 for 2 hours if you have Alchemy).
Food: Sea Mist Rice Noodles which increases your agility by 300 for 1 hour.

8. Abilities & Cooldowns(explained):

Abilities:

- Aspect of the Iron Hawk (or Aspect of the Hawk): This is the main and the only aspect that will be used in raids. Aspect of the Cheetah or Aspect of the Pack are used only if you need them or only if the raid will need them. They won't matter otherwise.
- Kill Command: This will be our primary ability until Kill Shot comes off cooldown. It needs to be used as fast as its cooldown is over. Weapons that are ilvl lower than the T13-T14 ones should make Kill Command the main priority since Kill Command is based only on Attack Power and not on Weapon Damage as Kill Shot.
- Arcane Shot: This ability will be used if Kill Shot / Kill Command are on cooldown. Since the focus cost is big, you would rather choose sometimes to use Cobra Shot, especially when you will need that focus for high cost abilities like A Murder of Crows.
- Cobra Shot: This ability is our ''main'' focus gainer, it will give you 14 focus every time you finished casting it, also it will be used to extend the duration of Serpent Sting on the target by 6 seconds. This ability will be used the most in phases where you are starving of focus, and abilities like Kill Command / A murder of Crows come off cooldown and you need focus for them.
- Multi-Shot: An ability designed only for AoE purposes. When used, it will trigger Beast Cleave which will transform your pet melee hits into AoE, and they will strike everything in 10 yards range. Make sure that when you want to use Multi-Shot, you should position your pet in the middle of the mobs / adds group so the AoE from pet via Beast cleave will hit as many mobs / adds as possible. Make sure you keep your Beast Cleave up by Multi-Shot even if there are 2 mobs. (2 being the smallest number of mobs if you want to use Multi-Shot on).
- Explosive Trap: An AoE damaging trap that doesn't cost any focus or something, being used for AoE purposes mostly.
- Serpent Sting: An debuff that is used only if you are focus capped and you are sure that it won't affect your Rotation by its GCD. Also, this spell is used on a target that will last longer, such a raid boss and so on.

Cooldowns:

- Bestial Wrath: This ability offers an 50% focus reduction to all the abilities we use for 10 seconds, also it will increase your damage by 10% and your pet damage by 20%. It will be used on cooldown usually. Every GCD while under Bestial Wrath effects should be used for dps abilities ONLY, so, make sure you don't use Serpent Sting / Explosive Trap / Dire Beast / Cobra Shot while under the 10 second enrage.
- Stampede: This ability has a higher rate of success when is combined with cooldowns like Agility Potions / On-Use Trinkets/ Heroism / Bloodlust and so on. Don't forget the fact that the summoned pets via Stampede won't inherit your Focus / Rapid Fire Haste.
- Rapid Fire: This ability will increase your ranged haste by 40% for 15 seconds; Usually this ability should not be used in combination with Bloodlust / Heroism or Focus Fire / Troll Berserk effects since their effects are the same, and they won't increase your dps being paired.
-
Focus Fire // Frenzy: Focus Fire should not be used until the pet has generated 5 stacks of Frenzy. Focus Fire will consume these stacks of Frenzy and give 6% haste x Frenzies consumed, and pets gain 6 focus x Frenzy stacks consumed. Focus Fire should be used every time the pet gains 5 Frenzy stacks, preferably outside of Rapid Fire and Bloodlust / Heroism / Time Warp / Bestial Wrath.

9. Raid priorities: Single Target vs AoE(explained):

Single Target Priority:

1. Always start by applying Hunter's Mark.
WARNING: The following pre-pull rotation can result in a fail pull and you can wipe the raid, so, play with caution.
** 2 seconds before pull: Use Virmen's Bite potion; Since you are not in combat already, its CD won't trigger a lockdown on the potion itself. So, you will be able to use a second potion later in the fight. **
** 1 second before pull: Use Glaive Toss (make sure you're positioned far enough away from the boss so that they won’t hit before the pull). **

After all of those we will start the Combat Phase part:
2. Use Serpent Sting.
3. Activate Bestial Wrath. Note that you can also use Rapid Fire the same time with Bestial Wrath for a better focus regeneration and a slightly more dps. Since both aren't on a GCD, you could put them into a macro together. Depends on your playstyle, i'd rather save Rapid Fire for a later use.
4. Kill Command.
5. Dire Beast. or, use Fervor (Fervor use it only if you need the focus offered by it.)
6. Stampede.
7. Rapid Fire. (Read point 2. also)
8. Focus Fire. (Use it after the Rapid Fire.)
9. Arcane Shot.
10. Cobra Shot.

AoE Priority:

1. Bestial Wrath or Any other focus gaining cooldown/proc(except Fervor).
2. Kill Command Best Used when there are 8 targets or less.
3. Kill Shot Best Used when there are 8 targets or less.
4. Barrage
5. Multi-Shot
6. Explosive Trap
7. Cobra Shot

10. Macros:

Bestial Wrath & Engineering Gloves:
Code:
#showtooltip Bestial Wrath
/stopcasting
/cast Bestial Wrath
/use 10

Aspect of the Iron Hawk:
Code:
#showtooltip
/cast !Aspect of the Iron Hawk

Misdirection:
Code:
#showtooltip Misdirection
/stopcasting
/cast [@focus] Misdirection
(This macro will use Misdirection if your tank is setted as focus.)

11. Addons:

JS Hunter Bar: - An really complexe and useful addon with multiple functions like Hunter CD's Tracker/Procs/Pet stacks, buffs.
Quartz: - Regular addon for cast bars.Customizable.
NeedToKnow: - Addon for tracking ICD of trinkets/items/procs.. also customizable for buffs, debuffs and many other things.

12. Pet Related:

Since every pet now can have its own specialization, there won't be any ''better choice'' in choosing a pet. Just choose the pet that provides the buff that your raid needs.
For raiding, all pets should be specialized into Ferocity, and it is recommended that you put Rabid on autocast, unless using Glyph of Stampede in which case only the current pet needs to be Ferocity specialized with Rabid on autocast. Pets inherit hunter ranged attack power, haste, mastery, and portions of hit and expertise. They do not inherit ranged attack speed or haste buffs like Rapid Fire effects.

Pet------------------Buff

Corehound - Bloodlust / Heroism ( Ancient Hysteria
Devilsaur, Wolf, Waterstrider - 5% increased Critical Strike Buff
Cat, Spirit Beast - 3000 increased Mastery Buff
Serpent, Hyena - 5% increased Haste

13. BIS Gear:

Head: Headguard of the Unblinking Vigil dropped by Thok the Bloodthirsty.
Neck: Gleaming Eye of the Devilsaur dropped by Thok the Bloodthirsty.
Shoulders: Spaulders of the Unblinking Vigil dropped by Siegcrafter Blackfuse
Cloak: Fen-Yu, Fury of Xuen obtained via the Legendary Cloak Quest Line.
Chest: Tunic of the Unblinking Vigil dropped by Sha of Pride.
Bracers: Wristguards of Ruination dropped by Malkorok.
Gloves: Gloves of the Unblinking Vigil dropped by General Nazgrim.
Belt: Arrowflight Girdle dropped by Spoils of Pandaria.
Legs: Leggings of Unabashed Anger dropped by Norushen.
Boots: Ravager's Pathwalkers dropped by General Nazgrim.
Ring 1: Ring of Restless Energy dropped by Malkorok.
Ring 2: Reality Ripper Ring dropped by Norushen.
Trinket 1: Assurance of Consequence dropped by Sha of Pride.
Trinket 2: Ticking Ebon Detonator dropped by Siegcrafter Blackfuse.
Weapon: Hisek's Reserve Longbow dropped by Paragons of the Klaxxi.
Alternate Ranged Weapon: Hellscream's Warbow dropped by Garrosh Hellscream.

14. End.

If there are any questions, just ask in the comments. I usually don't focus on ''images'', i let my facts speak for themselves. That's why the guide may look too hard-written.

Well done as in taking the time to put this all together. Altho', this is more or an introduction for the new players to MoP hunter, since it offers a few incorrect information as well as few-to-none advices/infos about dps-ing and playing on high levels.
I will take what time I have to bring something, a guide, for the dps boys when I have some spare time to test stuff out on the ptr.

First of all, this is the main reason the guide doesn't contain any strategies vs bosses; I am waiting to see how the bosses will work here first. That's why some information may look incorrect or not well detailed.

Ok, now to the ''and playing on high levels'' part:

Without causing any flame or so, i am really wondering how can a guy like ''you'' talk about '' playing on high levels''; Just, let's check a bit:

I. http://i.imgur.com/h9Lrd6Y.jpg - You have two shovels on your action bars. As far as i know, playing on ''high levels'' doesn't include any Shovels, unless you want to bury someone.

II. Also, as far as i know, players that play on a ''high level'' don't have their action bars filled with .. junks, and also they have... erm... binds. And not just 10 binds, like you are now starting the game in TBC.

III. http://i.imgur.com/n2gwHyQ.jpg - On a ''high level'' hunters will never and never put all of their spells on auto-cast, especially spells like Rabid/Dash. Also, let's just not talk about binds again, that hunter's mark is crying in that corner after the' hundreds clicks he received.

IV. http://www.twitch.tv/biimoo/c/4744363 - Let's be a bit realistic now, .. we are in 2015... after like 11~ years when World of Warcraft firstly appeared; and you are still backpedalling.. ? As far as i know, every player that played this game and just understood its mechanics, after 1-2 years after they started playing, they unbinded this key. Again, players on a ''high level'' will never have ''S'' key used as backpedalling key, especially ranged classes where its a ''must'' to unbind it.

V. Your grammar level ..is ...horrible, whether is Romanian or English. Don't get me wrong, every human being has its rights to do mistakes and so, but...

VI. Don't forget a thing, you was banned here on this forum multiple times for your low behavior, and you are still trying to prove your ''intelligence and skill/toughness talk level'' - Your forum posts explain enough, nearly 85% of them.

VII. http://i.imgur.com/1zsIrtZ.png - With this ''type'' of mentality, you won't prove anything else, PvP and neither PvE. ''Higher levels'' require three things: Mentality, Keeping your mouth closed, and the last of them ''A decent Behavior'', not a suffering one. Don't try to reply back (defending your actions/yourself or so), you won't get an answer, good luck.

Very nice guide but you have something in your guide that's "breaking" the forum. You have an element (image, text) so big that when I access your Guide it gives my browser arrows for Width.
Can you please see into this? My resolution is 1366x768.
P.S. I think the problem is with the two green lines at Glyph Section.

[color=orange]Tier II - Crowd Control:

You forgot to close the color + you should update the links at freakz database, overall is a good guide.
By the way , can you explain why is better to have haste>crit?

Done.

hujulikes wrote:

They are updated for freakz DB, you should switch your account to the MoP one on the account pannel and you will be able to see the links. That's not my fault; When MOP will be live, the normal pannel will disappear and those links will work just fine.

hujulikes wrote:

Because, when you will be BIS geared you will also have the legendary cloak/meta socket as i said. The procs of those two are affected by haste, and that's the main reason you should go for haste only at BIS.

Legendary Meta Socket proc - https://www.wow-freakz.com/spells.php?spell=137595 (wowhead link) .
Legendary Cloak proc - https://www.wow-freakz.com/spells.php?spell=146195 (wowhead link) .

Don't forget a thing, you was banned here on this forum multiple times for your low behavior, and you are still trying to prove your ''intelligence and skill/toughness talk level'' - Your forum posts explain enough, nearly 85% of them.

And this. Also, thank you for taking the time to read all my 1.8k posts, you are either a weird stalker or a frustrated kiddo.

And unfortunately for you, I played on high level grounds and achieved high level ranks.
Someone that thinks ''his'' ui is simply the best and other's UI just makes them noobs will never get to understand that.
UI's sole purpose is to help you keep track of what's important around you, mechanics wise and proc wise. I played the whole Siege of Orgrimar patch on my hunter as a main in a top ranked guild, world wide. And you? Trying to prove me wrong on some videos I did on my alts? Come on...

I don't think there's a sane person on this server who plays BM or will play bm until dire beast + stampede are fixed .

So nice guide if you play on blizz , useless on freakz .

Useful guide, good job -

I was wondering if you could also put a starting gear list for this patch?
