WoW Freakz spell link: N/A
Bug description: Parry gained from strength is not affected by Diminishing Returns.
Proof: Current parry chance: 25.61%
Parry chance after adding one ring: 26.90%, a 1.29% increase
Parry chance after adding another ring with the same STR value: 28.19%, a 1.29% increase

If DR worked, the second ring I added should've given me LESS parry than the first ring.
The DR formula should be the same as in the case of Dodge gained from Agility.

We can't apply "the same formula", they are totally different. We need info on how exactly the DR should be

Some of the formulas in here might be of assistance.

Maybe the character tooltip shows only the "before diminishing returns" for Parry Rating from items, not from Strength.

I doubt the information on that page is valid anymore. Maybe blizzard updated the character panel to include Diminishing Returns. Dodge percentage is displayed correctly and it includes DR, so why wouldn't Parry? Also don't forget that this topic is about Parry from Strength only. Parry gained from Parry Rating works fine and has a different DR formula

WoD Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Many ratings were removed from the game, including all tank avoidance ratings and hit/expertise.

The information is not valid anymore for WoD, because they removed the avoidance.

Why should Parry gained from pure Parry Rating have a different formula than Parry Rating gained from Strength?

Forceful deflection is no longer applied to any class since MoP. Instead this formula is used:

Parry % = STR / 951.1586

Ok. That was weird, on wowhead there is a changelog from 5.0.1 and gamepedia says it was removed...
Whatever, I edited my post.

Still, why should it have a different formula?

For a later read:

http://www.sacredduty.net/2012/07/06/avoidance-diminishing-returns-in-mop-part-3/

So I got this formula from Theck's part 3. The constants should be the same for DK, Warr, Pala.

baseParry = 3
baseStr = 176, for the sake of the argument, let's leave it for Belf, idk for human, have to level one.
Q=952
Cp=235.5
k=0.885
preParry=0 because you have no parry rating, just from Str.

TotalParry = 3 + 176/952 + ( 1/235.5 + 0.885/((24189-176)/952 + 0)) ^ (-1) = 3.184 + (0.00424 + 0.855/25.22) ^ (-1) = 3.184 + (0.00424 + 0.0339) ^ (-1) = 3.184 + 26.21 = 29.39 % (using both rings)
TotalParry = 26.26% (using no rings)

Soooooo.... yeah.... Any takes on this?

I downloaded the excel file from the main post and edited it with my own stats.

I took off all gear and found out my base STR was 305.
Parry before DR: 28.43 (yet I have 28.19)
Parry after DR: 26.97

L.E. the formula in the excel document appears to be correct.

Proof:

16.32% parry with...

12819 strength

Excel doc results (i dont know his base strength. I'll just assume it's the same as mine):

16.33% parry after DR

The formula for Parry after DR from the document is like this:
Base_Parry + Base_STR / 951.1586+(1/237.1861+(0.956/(((Total_STR - Base_STR)/951.1586)+(Parry_Rating + 0.0001)/885)))^-1
