Metallica este o trupã americanã de heavy metal din Los Angeles, California. Tempourile rapide, instrumentalele, și membrii de o tentã agresivã i-a plasat printre cei "big four" formeri ai trash metal alãturi de Slayer, Megadeth, și Anthrax. Metallica a fost înființatã în 1981, când James Hetfield a rãspuns unui anunț dintr-un ziar dat de toboșarul Lars Ulrich. Trupa actualã este formatã din: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich și Kirk Hammett și Robert Trujilo care s-au alãturat trupei în 2003. Membrii de dinainte au fost chitaristul Dave Mustaine, care s-a alãturat trupei Megadeth, basistul Ron McGovney (doar la demo-uri), Cliff Burton (primele 3 înregistrãri, dupã care a murit), și Jason Newsted. Trupa a avut de asemenea o colaborare de lungã duratã cu producãtorul Bob Rock, care le-a produs toate albumele din 1990 pânã în 2003 și a ținut de asemenea și loc de basist în perioada dintre plecare lui Newsted și angajarea lui Trujilo. Metallica a lansat 9 albume în studio, 4 albume live, 25 de videoclipuri și 37 de single-uri. Trupa a câștigat 9 premii Grammy și a avut 5 albume consecutive #1 pe Billboard 200, fiind de asemenea și prima trupã care a reușit asta. În 2009, Metallica a ajuns în Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
