Intro

Arcane spec imprroves the raid/party with the following spells: Arcane Tactics, Focus Magic, 3% crit, Time Warp.
Arcane Mage is an excellent dps for single target and especially in encounters that require less moving because of the big casts of Arcane Blast.
Encounters that require movement or aoe damage, arcane is less beneficial.
In order to increase your dps, the race must be:

Alliance
Gnome for Expansive Mind (wowhead link). Offers a bonus for 5% more mana. This bonus is perfect for arcane because as long as your mana si higher, your damage from mastery is higher.

The new race of Cataclysm
Worgen has Viciousness (wowhead link) that gives 1% crit chance.

Horde
Troll is considered one of the best for his racial Berserking. This racial gives 20% incr speed, also considered the 3rd trinket.

The new race of Cataclysm
Goblin has as a pasive racialTime is Money, this racial offers 1% increase cast speed. This racial is good especially for specs with dots because modifies the number of ticks given on a time period.

3.Rotation

4xArcane Blast
1xArcane Barrage to interrupt stacks from arcane blast.

When you get at 30% mana you use Evocation and start the rotation mentioned above.
In case that you abused the stacks from Arcane Blast and you're out of mana till the cd from Evocation is gone, when you get to 20% mana you will use 3x Arcane Blast + Arcane Missiles(being free).

4.Macro

At 3 Arcane Blast at the beginning of the encounter use:

• Mana Gem gives spell power.
  
• Arcane Power increase spell damage
  
• Mana Shield if you have talent Incanter's Absorption gives spell power (usually when you use mana shield).

5.Stats

Intellect > Spell Hit Cap (17%) > Mastery > Crit > Haste


Intellect>Hit>Mastery>Critical>Haste

In cataclysm, some changes took place for stats because intellect is dp with spellpower and a new stat called Mastery.

Most important stat for any caster is intellect because, as long as you have lots of it increases your damage/heal and also increases your mana and your crit.

Hit is secondary, because it's cap is 17%
In order to stop missing at bosses lvl 88, we must consider this stat.

Mastery, Crit depends on your gamestyle


I went for Mastery as a priority because as long as you have more mana it increases your damage.
Take care of your rotation, cd for evocation and using correct gems.
Mastery becames a low stats in case your mana gets under 50%, but because of improves, riplenisment shouldn't cause any problems.

Critical Strike Raiting modifies the chance of criticals given by the caster. More crits -> higher damage.

Code:

1% crit = 179.28 critical strike rating

As you can see, you need 179,28 crit strike in order to get 1% crit chance.
For cataclysm, this stat have been changed.

I preffered to leave in last place Haste because as an arcane mage, haste decreases cast time, this spec having no dots, therefore the dot ticks don't have to increase.

Code:

1% haste = 128,05701 haste rating

A bigger haste cancel the mana regen because of the short casts (i'm talking only about 4+ arcane blast stacks).

Those stats are informative (Mastery, Crit, Haste) they can be modified by the personal gamestyle.

6.Reforge

We use reforge to change the items stats.
1. As a priority for reforging is Hit, because Hit is a base stat in PvE(without hit you will miss from time to time)
2. In case that you have some spirit items and then you have achieved hit cap, you can reforge to mastery.
3. Also, if you have haste+crit items, reforge the haste into mastery (as an arcane mage you depend on mastery)

7.Gems

About geming

Respecting gems colors is only for 20 socket bonus intellect or at least nastery, crit haste.
In case that the bonus is 10 and the slots are others than red we won't respect the color anymore. And we will socket with 40 intellect.
