1962. Un cuplu American fancy, format din carismaticul Chester MacFarland (Viggo Mortensen) și atrãgãtoarea lui soție, Colette (Kirsten Dunst), se aflã în vacanțã în Atena, Grecia. În timp ce se plimbã printre ruinele celebrei Acropole, cei doi îl cunosc pe Rydal (Oscar Isaac), un tânãr american, vorbitor de limbã greacã care își petrece timpul lucrând ca ghid turistic și îmbrobodind turistele naive. Atras de frumusețea lui Colette și impresionat de bunãstarea și rafinamentul.
