new player- server is dead?

guys, i want to join this server with my GF, and i really want to know if the server is still high population? cause sometimes i log on the site and there are only 300 people, and sometimes 700, but that is not even close to what i've seen when i first downloaded the server(1-2 months ago, i forgot to play, so i'm starting now), so... to the players that are here for long enough, can you tell me if i should join this server or should i look for a more populated one.(sorry for bad english, not my first language)

I am waiting,for legion realm too but i am losing my patience.I am sure,really a lot of people are waiting too .

i will also go on Legion but for now i`m almost daily logging into MOP.
but you're right, a few months ago we even had 3k players at evening, now we don't reach 2k dunno why
