How the gear upgrade and item donation works?

If i understood right:
If you donated in 7.2 and you got some donated gear that is from the 7.2 patch, once u log in on the site, there is a shop option to upgrade gear to current patch. You basically choose a donated slot that you got (Trinket, Hands, Cloak, etc) and swap it with an item from this patch or anything else with the highest ilvl currently possible (Except patheon trinkets, that you get as 985 max and not 1k). It works like item exchange, but for free.
