The Lunar Festival is the World of Warcraft counterpart of the Chinese New Year.
The event takes place in capital cities, Moonglade, and many villages where Elders can be found. Many rewards can be earned, though most people will solely focus on the pet reward.

Today, the Lunar Festival is held by the druids of Nighthaven. Both the Horde and Alliance are welcome to celebrate and shoot fireworks — a symbol of Elune's power. Ancient heroes of the past also appear throughout the land, offering gifts to those who find and honor them.
It is a time of happiness, fortune and celebration, but it has a deeper motive as well.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to complete the event.

1. Date and Timeline
The Lunar Festival is a 2-week event. This year, it starts on January the 26 and finishes on February the 9.
There are no daily tasks, so the entire event can be completed in a single day, if you wish to do so.

1.1. Location and Relevant NPCs
The event starts in any of the capital cities. Lunar Festival NPCs will give you the first of the introductory quests. Then, you are sent to Moonglade where you will find the reward vendors Fariel Starsong and Valadar Starsong who also gives you the last quest). Lunar Festival Vendors also sell fireworks in capital cities during the event.
In addition, you can visit the elders located in many cities and villages of World of Warcraft. They will give you the coins you need to buy the rewards from the vendors.

1.2. Currency
The currency of the event is Coin of Ancestry. You will earn these coins by visiting the elders scattered throughout the world. During a single Lunar Festival, you can earn a fixed number of 84 of these coins, so you will have to spend them carefully .
These coins have no duration, so you will be able to spend the coins that you have collected in the previous editions (provided that you have kept them).

2. Rewards
The pets are the only rewards that will appeal to almost everyone. The rest of the rewards are clothing items and fireworks, which are mostly needed to complete some of the achievements.

2.1. Toys:
Everlasting Alliance Firework
Everlasting Horde Firework

2.2. Pets:
There are two pets available for purchase from Valadar Starsong for 50 Coin of Ancestry each:
Lunar Lantern (Alliance)
Festival Lantern (Horde)

Only one pet is visible to individual players, but both factions' pets are not soulbound and can be traded or sold on the auction house.

2.3. Food
Festival Dumplings are sold by Valadar Starsong for Coin of Ancestry and Moonglow is sold by the Lunar Festival Vendor/Lunar Festival Vendor for 15 copper.

2.4. Vanity Items
The following vanity items are available during the event:
Elder's Moonstone ;
Elune Stone;
Elune's Candle.

2.5. Clothing
To complete one of the achievements, you will have to spend 5 Coin of Ancestry to buy one of these items from Valadar Starsong:

Festive Green Dress
Festive Purple Dress
Festive Pink Dress
Festive Teal Pant Suit
Festive Black Pant Suit
Festive Blue Pant Suit

2.6. Fireworks
Like clothing pieces, for most people, fireworks will only be used to obtain some of the achievements. You can buy them from the
Lunar Festival Vendor/Lunar Festival Vendor:

Small Blue Rocket ;
Small Green Rocket ;
Small Red Rocket ;
Festival Firecracker ;
Red Rocket Cluster ;
Green Rocket Cluster ;
Blue Rocket Cluster .

Note that only Red Rocket Clusters and Festival Firecrackers are needed for the achievements.
There are 14 Engineering schematics, for 30 Coin of Ancestry total, and two new Tailoring recipes for 10 Coin of Ancestry total.
They are all sold by Fariel Starsong :

3. Quests

The Lunar Festival
Start: Lunar FestivalHerald or Lunar Festival Emissary
End: Lunar Festival Harbinger
This quest is simply an introductory quest available from a Lunar FestivalHerald or Lunar Festival Emissary , which are located in each of the major cities. The quest will send you to speak with a Lunar Festival Harbinger located at the city's main Lunar Festival camp, who will give you a new quest.
Lunar Fireworks
Start & End: Lunar Festival Harbinger
To complete this quest you must purchase fireworks from a nearby Lunar Festival Vendor and use them nearby. The large fireworks clusters will require use of a firework launcher, which can be found on the ground around the main Lunar Festival camps. Simply purchase and fire off the specified quantity of fireworks and return the quest to pick up the follow-up.
Valadar Starsong
Start: Lunar Festival Harbinger
End: Valadar Starsong
Upon arriving in Moonglade, seek out Valadar Starsong who is located on the northeastern platform overlooking Lake Elune'ara. He will welcome you to Moonglade and the Lunar Festival celebration and starts some new quests. Completion of this quest may be a prerequesite for his following quests.
Elune's Blessing
Start & End: Valadar Starsong
This quest is actually flagged as a Raid quest in-game, though it shouldn't take very many players at all to complete. Simply purchase (or acquire through quests or crafting) some rocket clusters from a Lunar Festival Vendor and head down to the Stormrage Barrow Dens in Moonglade, southeast of Lake Elune'ara.

4. Visiting the Elders

There are 84 Elders to visit in total. In this section, we will show where the Elders are located for a given continent. We will not give exact coordinates as each Elder you visit will give you a quest that instantly completes, making it easier to spot them on the minimap (provided that you enabled the highlight of low-level quest givers).

All the Elders give you a similar quest that rewards 1 Coin of Ancestry and a Lucky Red Envelope, which can contain an Elder's Moonstone or a Lucky Rocket Cluster.
