How to get Shadowmourne

Shadowmourne is a legendary two-handed axe which is obtained through an arduous quest line available to Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors. This guide will walk the player through the necessary tasks and quests in order to obtain the legendary axe.

The axe and quest chain were added in Patch 3.3.0 at the same time the Icecrown Citadel raiding instance was added. Most of the quest must be completed in the 25-man instance, and can be completed in both normal and heroic boss encounters. The difficulty of obtaining the axe is still significant despite the increase in player and item stat level increases that have been implemented since it became available. This is mostly due to the weekly raid lockout, but there are still several quests that require difficult timings, or mechanics that are still difficult to accomplish in a raid setting. Additionally, the increased damage that most raids are capable of putting out now is far beyond that for which the encounters were designed, which can also hamper quest completion on fights requiring a certain number of events to occur. Still, the reward of the legendary axe is still worth the effort for those players who put forth the effort to obtain it.

Quest #1 The Sacred and the Corrupt

Place Light's Vengeance, 25 Primordial Saronite, Rotface's Acidic Blood, and Festergut's Acidic Blood in Highlord Mograine's runeforge in Icecrown Citadel.
Rotface's Acidic Blood and Festergut's Acidic Blood may only be obtained in the 25 person difficulty setting of Icecrown Citadel

Primordial Saronite drop from everyone boss

Rotface's Acidic Blood, and Festergut'Acidic Blood Drop From Rotface and Festergut in The Upper Reaches.

Quest #2 Shadow's Edge

In this Quest Highlord Mograine will forge Shadow Edge for you and this is reward from the first quest.

Quest #3 A Feast of Souls

Highlord Darion Mograine wants you to use Shadow's Edge to slay 50 of the Lich King's minions in Icecrown Citadel. Souls can be obtained in 10 or 25 person difficulty.


The fastest way to collect is to kill the mobs in the Royal Quarters

Quest #4 Unholy Infusion

This quest may only be completed in 25 person difficulty of Icecrown Citadel.

Infuse Shadow's Edge with Unholy power then slay Putricide.

You only need to kill the Proffesor Putricide

Quest #5 Blood Infusion

Highlord Darion Mograine wants you to infuse Shadow's Edge with blood and defeat Queen Lana'thel.

This quest may only be completed in 25 person difficulty of Icecrown Citadel.

Infuse Shadow's Edge with Blood then defeat Lana'thel.

You only need to kill the Blood-Queen Lana'thel

Quest #6 Frost Infusion

Highlord Darion Mograine has instructed you to slay Sindragosa after subjecting yourself to 4 of her breath attacks while wielding Shadow's Edge.

This quest may only be completed in 25 person difficulty of Icecrown Citadel.

Infuse Shadow's Edge with Frost then slay Sindragosa

You only need to kill The Sindragosa

Quest #7 The Splintered Throne

Highlord Darion Mograine wants you to collect 50 Shadowfrost Shards.

Shadowfrost Shards may only be obtained in the 25 person difficulty setting.

Shadowfrost Shards dont have 100% chance to drop but on 1 run you can get 6-7 to collect 50 Shadowfrost shards it can take you weeks you can get Shadowfrost Shards from everyone boss.

Quest #8 Shadowmourne...

Highlord Darion Mograine wants you to bring him Shadow's Edge.

The long awaited moment is here and Highlord Dirion Mograine will forge a Shadowmourne for you!!

Quest #9 The Lich King's Last Stand

And its a last quest
