Difficulty levels through expansions

I've noticed how easy the game was to progress solo through quests from Vanilla to Cataclysm, but now that I've entered Mists, I can't pull more then 2 mobs (equal level), and some hit for half my HP bar.
Is this the servers settings or would this be similar to Retail experience?

Did u have heirloom that got deactivated? Cus i have not faced this problem. i could clean every thing in pandaria

Nothing like that. I stopped looting those WowFreakz loot crates in BC because I was so overpowerd that I just ran around 1 shot Moon Firing every mob.

Leveling is still easy in Mists but i have died a few times now from mobs that hit for 1/2 or 1/3 of my HP bar.
