do professions work pre BFA??

i have a paladin and i took MINING & BLACKSMITHING, but i cannot even learn 'smelt copper' from the trainer in goldshire or stormwind. however when i got TAILORING with my mage i am able to make 'bolt of linen cloth' YET, i dont know about further crafting.

i love professions and i wish they work even pre bfa
