National High Magnetic Field Laboratory si Florida State University vor construi un supermagnet pentru Institutul Hahn-Meitner din Berlin, Germania.
Supermagnetul va fi gata in anul 2011 si va genera un camp magnetic cuprins intre 25 si 30 tesla, adica de 500 de mii de ori mai puternic decat campul magnetic al pamantului.
Noul dispozitiv va fi utilizat in cercetarea materialelor superconductoare. Supermagnetul este format dintr-un nucleu magnetic racit la exterior cu heliu lichid.
