Hunter - Beast Mastery, PvE

The first question that appears when someone sees a spec guide is: " Ok great!.. why would I use it?"

The question is quite a good one ... I mean is someone would ask me why do I play BM and not surv and MM I'd say that this is spec fits me best.. 'cause this is the spec with whick I play most comfortable, not because BM is a better spec than MM and surv or other arguments like these... this depends on each person's playing style and I will try to show you my playing style with this guide :). But for giving a better argument I'd say that BM is a very fun spec providing, to those who would be interested to try it, an easy way to having a high damage even from the leveling stage and the easy way to the top DPS with adequate gear.

A very important aspect at the BM hunter is that around half of the damage you see on the screen is dealt by the pet. The specific BM pets are the exotic ones( pets that have besides the standard abilities a bonus one as well)

Talent Tree - link

Code:
/run t,p,a={1,12,23,33,52,63,83,91,101,113,122,141,151,162,171,182,191,2,12,23,42,3,23,}SetPreviewPrimaryTalentTree(t[1],GetActiveTalentGroup())for i=1,#t do a=t[i]if a<9 then p=a else AddPreviewTalentPoints(p,floor(a/10),a%10)end end

Glyphs :

Prime Glyphs :

-Glyph of Kill Command - reduces the focus cost of Kill Command by 3.
-Glyph of Arcane Shot - increases Arcane Shot's damage by 12%..
-Glyph of Kill Shot - offers you the possibility to use Kill Shot more often, resetting it's CD if the target doesn't die from the previous Kill Shot( ofc this effect has a 6 seconds CD.. all good things have restrictions :)) ).

Major Glyphs :

-Glyph of Bestial Wrath - decreases the CD of Bestial Wrath by 20 sec. Wouldn't it be great if we could use Bestial Wrath more and more often?? :D
-Glyph of Trap Launcher - reduces the focus cost of Trap Launcher by 10.
-Glyph of Mending - increases Mend Pet's heal by 60%. This is the BM hunter's "Achilles' heel": if the pet dies the damage halves, so my advice don't always trust the fact that the healers will take care of your pet in raid, so keep an eye to your pet and use Mend Pet when necessary ;)

Minor Glyphs :

-Glyph of Revive Pet - I'd say that this one is the only mandatory minor glyph... only in case your pet dies for you not to have pushback while reviving it.
the other 2 on your own choice..

Pets

I'm 100% sure that you were the most curious about this part... after all we are talking about Beast Mastery.. aren't we?? :P

Devilsaur -> Terrifying Roar - gives 5% crit chance to the raid members + Monstrous Bite - bonus ability that decreases the target's received heal

Spirit Beast -> Roar of Courage - gives 549 Agility & Strength to the raid members + Spirit Walk - stealth and first attack increased by 20% ability + Spirit Mend - bonus HoT(heal over time) ability

Core Hound -> Ancient Hysteria - alternative ability to Bloodlust/Heroism from the shaman or Time Warp from the mage + Lava Breath (wowhead link) - bonus ability that decreases the target's spell cast speed

all 3 pets have almost the same DPS, use the one that is more necessary to the raid/party

Ferocity pet talent tree :

Although in PvE the ferocity pet is the dominant one and the 100% recommended, I dared to mention a cunning pet as well.. wonder why?? well..this pet is a special one..

Chimaera -> Among the single target ability Frost Breath, the Chimaera is one of the only 2 hunter pets that has a AoE ability, namely Froststorm Breath which at AoE deals more damage than a ferocity pet. The other one is the Worm which also has a AoE ability, but the reason I didn't mentioned it is because it's lower damage that Chimaera's.. being a tenacity pet.

Cunning pet talent tree :

General things

-> the hunter's most important must: The combat begins with Hunter's Mark on the target, followed by Serpent Sting.

-> in case of too much generated threat, use Misdirection on the tank ( or on the pet in case you solo ).

-> Focus Fire you use it every time is active ( preferably exactly in that moment ).

-> Bestial Wrath can be used at maximum eficency when combined with your trinket, when you have almost full focus, when your pet has full stacks of Rabid and uses Call of the Wild. As burst abilities you use Kill Command and Arcane Shot rain. Don't use it in combination with Rapid Fire. The reason is the following: Because of the talent The Beast Within all your shots and Kill Command have their focus cost halved, so we don't need to use Cobra Shot for focus generation, which means Rapid Fire will have effect only on autoshots... which is kinda useless... In stead Rapid Fire is very useful to be activated when we run out of focus, because it helps us cast more Cobra Shot's in a short period of time, which means more generated focus.

-> Fervor you use it when you feel like needing focus (eventually if you have activated Bestial Wrath and you ran out of focus before expiring it's effect)

-> You can leave all your pet's abilities to autoactivate themselves.. the buffs will be placed and your pet will use the attack abilities depending on his focus ( and the bonuses from your talents: Focus Fire, Fervor, Go to the Throat & Sic'Em).

Single Target Dps

-> Kill Command - every time when it's out of CD and you have focus
-> Arcane Shot - every time when Kill Command has CD and you still have focus
-> Cobra Shot - every time when you run out of focus
-> Kill Shot - every time when it's available ( it has priority even to Kill Command )

Area of Efect Dps (AoE) :

-> Explosive Trap - use Trap Launcher to put the trap under moobs every time when it's available.
-> Multi-Shot - every time when you have focus
-> Cobra Shot - every time when you don't have focus
-> Froststorm Breath (wowhead link) - from your Chimaera.. unlike other hunter pet's abilities, this ability can be activated only manual :P

Stats

Agility - The most important hunter stat. It gives you Attack Power and Critical Strike

Hit Rating - Range Hit cap 8% ( 7% if you are Draenei). More is useless.

Mastery - This is where we have a novelty from Marksmanship and Survival. Mastery is a very important stat.. every point of mastery increases your pet's damage by 1.67%, which is great since half of your damage is dealt by your pet, but that doesn't mean we have to go full mastery.

Critical Strike - You would like to have as much crit as possible because talents like Killing Streak, Invigoration (wowhead link), Go to the Throat and Sic'Em

Haste - Just because I let it the last one it doesn't mean it's not important at all.. In fact it really is, because it helps us cast faster Cobra Shot and generate more focus. Making a short calculation we have 15% haste from Focus Fire which we consider always active + having in raid a surv hunter/ frost dk/ shaman with windfury totem for the 9% haste, I'd say that a total of 45%-50% haste ( I mean around 21%-26% haste on gear ) would be great, taking in consider that we have the bonuses from your and your pet's abilities. When you get 2 pieces of T13, haste loses importance, because Cobra Shot generates double amount of focus.. then we can say that we avoid haste as much as we can, because what we have from Focus Fire and the aura from surv hunter/frost dk/windfury totem is quite enough.

This leads to the following stats importance list: Agility > Hit('till cap) > Mastery = Crit > Haste

Gemming

Meta - Agile Shadowspirit Diamond
Red - Delicate Queen's Garnet or Delicate Chimera's Eye for those who have Jewelcrafting
Blue - Glinting Shadow Spinel
Yellow - Deadly Lava Coral / Adept Lava Coral
Prismatic - Delicate Queen's Garnet or Delicate Chimera's Eye for those who have Jewelcrafting

Enchants

-> Head: Arcanum of Ramkahen - 60 Agility + 35 Haste.
-> Shoulders: Greater Inscription of Shattered Crystal 50 Agility + 25 Mastery .
-> Back – Greater Critical Strike – 65 Critical Strike
-> Chest – Peerless Stats - 20 all stats
-> Wrists – Agility – 50 Agility
-> Gloves – Greater Mastery – 65 Mastery
-> Belt – Ebonsteel Belt Buckle
-> Legs – Dragonscale Leg Armor: 190 Attack Power + 55 Critical Strike
-> Boots – Mastery – 50 Mastery
-> 2H Melee Weapon – Mighty Agility – 130 Agility
-> Range Weapon – Flintlocke's Woodchucker – 300 Agility proc

Reforging

We reforge items after the following principle: Do we have crit on gear? yes? great.. Do we have mastery on item? yes? great.. we leave it alone. Short said, we look for having on each item mastery and crit where we can. Where we have to choose between crit and mastery we choose mastery. We don't reforge mastery to crit or opposite!!! Be careful at haste.. we don't reforge haste only if necessary ( look at stats ).

I hope this guide was useful and I wait for questions if there are any.

P.S.: The first picture is made in Paint from other pictures with my pets =))
