Bug Description:
To be fair, this is a bug I've seen on other servers in the past. Though I've never seen it fixed. The bigger problem now is that my normal work-around for this bug is also bugged.
The problem is that it's possible to essentially break your auto-attacks. You won't be auto-attacking unless you clear your target and reselect them either by right-clicking or casting in a way other than what follows.

This bug occurs under two circumstances:
1. Casting any skill with a cast time (in this case: Steady Shot, Cobra Shot, or Aimed Shot) twice in a row from not attacking. It doesn't have to be the same shot, chaining any two of those together will do the trick.
2. Switching targets while in the middle of a cast. NOTE: This will bug auto-attacks even if they were working previously.
3. Casting any of the aforementioned Shots from Feign Death; note they only need to be cast once, not twice, to bug auto attacks.

This is a pretty severe DPS loss, especially if you don't notice it happening (until you check your Recount afterwards wondering why you sucked so bad).

What makes it worse particularly for Marksmanship Hunters is that they're basically designed to start encounters this way - chaining Aimed Shots/Steady Shots together because they're basically guaranteed criticals until <80% boss health - and in general, it's not entirely uncommon in fights with adds to find yourself out of focus when switching targets and having to open with casted shots.

My normal work-around for this in the past was to macro "/cast !Auto Attack" in all my casted abilities. However, this is only half working here as the "!" does not prevent the toggling of the Auto Attack spell (which it should, the "!" should make it so that it will only toggle Auto Attack on, and do nothing if I'm already auto-attacking). So I can still technically miss out on some shots because my auto-attack is constantly being turned on and off. Plus it's just extremely noisy when you have a gun equipped. -

I've also found that "/stopcasting" will also cause you to start auto-attacking, but that's something I don't really want binded to anything as the last thing I want to do is accidentally stop casting a Steady or Aimed Shot.

I've tried every other macro solution I can think of and none of them circumvent the problem. The only way to really make it not happen is to play the class or spec (as this really will effect Marksmanship more than the other specs) wrong, lol.

Proof:
Don't have the software to provide video, but like I said it's very easy to replicate.

1. Go to a target dummy.
2. Left click target dummy.
3. Cast two of any shot with a cast time back-to-back (mash that button like any player would) -OR- cast any shot and switch targets while casting -OR- cast Feign Death and cast any of these shots once.
4. Notice how after you're finished casting, your character just stands there and does nothing. Even if you cast instant shots, auto attacks don't start.


Like I said, this a pretty old bug I've seen on other servers all throughout Wrath of the Lich King as a Hunter, and I don't think any of them ever fixed it.

Same with warriors and slam. And it's even worse than hunters couse they lose dps and even starts to rage starve and that is even worse

I've tried this, and a lot of my guildies have been telling me this as well (which is funny, because I was the one who told them how to fix it on previous servers). Doesn't work. I've tried every macro option under the sun. "/cast !Auto Attack" was really the most efficient (and quietest if you have a gun) option; this was actually "/cast !Auto Shot" in WotLK, but it seems these were baked together in Cata.

I've tried "/cast !Attack" and it almost worked, but the problem is that the Attack spell first tries to hit the target with your melee weapon even if you're at range. So unless you wait for that first shot to go off, your ranged "swing" timer won't start and your attack will bug as usual. The Shoot spell is simply a single shot and not an auto-attack.

Update:
I discovered a little while ago that "Auto Shot" was moved into the Marksman spellbook (as opposed to the General spellbook where I was originally looking). So "/cast !Auto Shot" before any of your casted attacks will work around this problem.

However, if you switch targets, you need to completely drop your target before attacking the next mob. Otherwise your autoshots will keep going to the first mob if it's not dead yet.
