It's been awhile since we had a POWERFUL topic!
(And yes, so long a time has passed that I forgot the password to an older account LOL)

Powerman/z is back to bring you another edition of PUG Journalism, well in this case, Raid Leadership.

Some of you have been thrust into a position of leadership - whether it's a guild, a raid, a party, or god forbid, a battleground.
In many cases you'd see your own qualities and capabilities in that role.

Take note - this comes from a guy (me) who's been either a top officer, or a guildmaster, of some of the top guilds in big private servers before.
Some of you who come from retail know too well how "less skilled" private server communities are compared to our "cousins who pay to play".

The story is about some experiences I've had with leaders I've encountered - video game leaders (if that were a profession itself).

On one hand - I've seen guild leaders and officers just sit there, while their own guild members insulted each other, without knowing the true causes of mistakes, or if any mistakes were actually made.
- An apparent ZERO care mentality.

On another - I myself have written guides to try and help out - and, the first assumption someone has is that:
"OMG! Why are you doing that? You're pretending to be an officer to steal my spot!"

=================================================

Currently though, the latest experience was in a raid I joined earlier.
If you ask why I write about it - it's simple - I have free time before I head to work.
And it's better to let your thoughts flow, while making a few jokes in between.

The raid was for BOT 25H (ON EXODUS btw - although my main chars are on GENESIS).
I was a healer and asked for assistant - to fix groups (make healing easier).

After Halfus, we started cleaning trash to Valiona.
The raid leader was mostly quiet.
I asked the group if they knew the fight on heroic = over a dozen said they didn't.

The raid leader decided we should go for Council ("because heroic Council is easier than heroic Valiona").
We cleaned more trash.
Once we got to Council - he went AFK, his assistant wasn't saying anything.
He and his pals later said: "we can't do this" / "waste of time".

We were already there - 15 minutes derping around - with no one saying what we should be doing.

I thought to myself - "OK, I'll try to help out"
Over on a voice chat program - I asked people if they wanted to try it (to see which ones can't handle the fight) = some wanted to.
Over on raid chat - I asked which people knew the fight, and which ones didn't.

--- So I made an explanation of the FIRST PHASE of Council.

The raid leader didn't like that - and after a wipe - (because half the melee from his own guild were just standing on fires) - he put me on ignore:
"To prevent me from being invited again"

He continued to explain that:
"He feels I was taking over his leadership"

I made a REAL LIFE FACEPALM when he said that.
-

=================================================

I made a few things clear:
(1) He was the raid leader, he can simply say "raid over", or "listen up, this is what we'll do".
(2) The raid leader mentioned (on whispers and raid chat) - "that it can't be done / it's a waste of time."
(3) He, and his assistant, were either AFK or not doing anything, or not deciding.
(4) The most I did was ask which people did not know the fight, so I can try and help them learn at least one phase of it.

And yet, he suddenly says these things:

"I come from retail and have US realm first kills of <insert name of boss> bla bla bla"
"I know how to lead, I make successful raids bla bla bla"
"I feel the raid is over, and it's a waste of time, but I don't want it to be, I have a plan, or whatever, bla bla bla"
"You are trying to take over the leadership of the raid from me bla bla bla"

I just ended up repeatedly telling him:
"Dude, you're the raid leader - go say something - make a decision.
Otherwise, you're making us kill trash, stand around, or wait for nothing."

If he actually had a goal in mind, and a plan to achieve it - I would obviously just stay put and listen.
If he wanted to call off the raid - then I'd leave the group like everyone else.

It feels that someone is just finding excuses to cover up for his own indecisiveness.

In the end, he felt that ME saying: "type 1 if you don't know the fight" = is equivalent to TAKING OVER and STEALING HIS COMMAND!

-
-

=================================================

You see, he got pissed, so he ignored one of my characters ("to prevent future invites").
Yet he was trying to explain and be nice while talking to another of my characters.
Does that make any sense?

The funniest joke was actually towards the end of our conversation:

He says = "Anyway, can you help me out with the tactics for this boss, there's a problem with the debuff, can you clarify some things for me?"

So this guy - raid leader/ guild leader - asks me for help in the end. -

Yet before that he blames me for - "taking over his raid" - when he himself can't decide on anything, even to call the raid over...

BOTTOM LINE:

If you lead raids - make sure you know WHAT THE F*** your goal is.
Don't blame the guy who tries to help players with the fight - just because you're AFK or can't make up your mind yet.

It's like a bad case of ego trip.
"OMG I AM LEDARRRR! WHY U SPEAK!11!!! HOW DARE UUUU????
I AM LEDARRRRR!!1!1!!!"

The last time I made a joke topic - you were the focus - and people were laughing - to the point that you had your guild application rejected.
We found out you were high-ranking officer in your guild, yet you had no leadership qualities, and simply a troll - who's fixated on 'internet forum points'.

-

That was a couple of months ago.

Are you telling me you are still hostile, angry, desperate for revenge - that you still comment on my topics / reply to my posts whenever you can?

-- To the point that you still think "clicking the minus button" in an internet forum - is 'worth something'?
-- Or that internet forum reputation in a private server is 'taken seriously'?

- -

Sounds to me like you're the one dragging 'tears' around.

See what I did there? It's called reverse psychology - something which you are unable to grasp. -

Son, kindly find some random cossack to talk to, nye kultyurniy. -

Some people just have too much snow in their brains to think correctly.

Something for light-humored people to laugh and clap about.
Something for humorless people to gripe and QQ about.

Something for you to ask a pointless question in and have me consider you as the latter.

Cheers!

If you want to make people laugh, make something like this: http://cwsargeras.blogspot.com/2009/03/scourge-chat-log-1.html

Don't shower us with walls of important texts which are nothing but QQin' and bragging about your "uber l33t skills". Thanks.

Riddle me this:
At what point in the entire topic was I bragging about video game leetness?

Come now, architects are generally considered to be smart people.
The name certainly does not suit you.

Do change it. Thanks. -

I'm not in EG so I don't know what you're talking about unless you're stalking people on the net.
-

Like I've said before there are things that aren't funny to you because the jokes are made at your expense.
Hence your belated grudge after months have passed.

Please, try to be less of a child, let it go. -

Look at me, it takes me 5 minutes to write a topic and afterwards I could care less about what happens, I'm just derping around.
You = still can't move on from a topic about you months ago. That's really sad.

:(

Thanks for linking that, it has been years since I saw that Scourge chat.

Something about WoW villains really tends to be funny like the YouTube machinima show - azerothian super villains

The bottom line of this thread is that OP's post is, if not funny, at least true. I still find it funny because I was in that raid.
Also the only haters here are Needlegun and Architech who are saving negative forum points for those like Powerman(z).
Focus more on the game, not the forum. Come here to laugh and kill time, not criticize someone and give minus rep (although the latter doesn't even matter irl.). Be a good person for once in a while...

It still confuses me why some people think that internet forum reputation/points even matter.

I remember months ago when Mr. Nye Kyultyurniy (Uncultured) and his friends were downrating (putting minus points) on my posts.
I can imagine they were cheering, shouting, and congratulating themselves on their single greatest accomplishment.

Well Whats, I do believe it would be unfair to say the 'leadership' is bad per se.

I can compare it to other raids I've joined with different people leading them:
= The leader ninjas items for himself or friends
= The only tactic the leader knows is "GO TANK"
= The leader would blame you for the mistake he makes (cough*Needle*cough)

On the flipside => Over the years I've met many good leaders who play the game - they have earned my respect.
This is because I saw in them - LEADERSHIP BY EXAMPLE.

I think, in this case with the story I've written here - it's not "bad leadership", rather a case of "conflicting egos".

Leaders will always be decisive, will always have a plan, will always know what to say.
If they don't - they should NOT blame other people who are trying to help the group.

I think that's the lesson here.

When you have a dozen people asking: "Are we going to do anything?"; and several minutes wasted doing nothing = you shouldn't put blame on the guy who takes the initiative to help get things going.

"OMG I AM LEDAAARRR WHY U DO DIS?? U ARE NOT LEDARRRR!
I AM LEDARRRR I AM REALM FIRST KILL LEEEDDAAAARRRR!!!!"

=======================================

These are some videos you might enjoy.

These are made by a guy called Ian Beckman - the machinima series is titled: AZEROTHIAN SUPER VILLAINS.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=u2WG-9wocwM:

I've watched this years ago, and many of the episodes and moments within those are very funny.
Best laughs go to KAEL'THAS and ARCHIMONDE (the tree-rapist - an obvious reference for those of you who played Warcraft 3).
