additional notes:-all my ambushes and backstabs were critical because its almost impossible to get a non critical with my spec
-all my attacks were done in the 20k armo 4k resi dummy
-this is the spec i was using http://imgur.com/KAq0Bg3
-no procs involved and no piece of gear was changed during the test
-yeah i did this test in different periods of times , i was eating dinner and thinking of how to do it
-i forgot to use shadowstep as a modifier damage

sadly i dont really know how to calculate a spell damage

but comparing both formulas, ambush should deal more damage than backstab anytime and in this case is backwards...

if some1 can contribute to the post how to calculate damage ill be glad to do the maths and post the result back

MoP formula should work and this is a link that proves it hasnt changed

And how can you be so sure that ambush damage is too low and it's not the backstab dmg too high? So bring some formulas

Now to answer this, the damage done by both spells should be close enough with small variations like 1-2k max.

Ambush =Ambush the target, causing 190% weapon damage plus 367 to the target (275% plus 531 if a dagger is equipped). Must be stealthed and behind the target. Awards 2 combo points. without specialization or talents
Backstab = Backstab the target, causing 200% weapon damage plus 345 to the target. Must be behind the target. Requires a dagger in the main hand. Awards 1 combo point. without specialization or talents

With talents and specialization : Ambush total dmg= Ambush+Improved Ambush(15%)+Opportunity(30%)
Backstab total dmg= Backstab+Sinister Calling(40%)+Opportunity(30%)

I'm not sure if this is right but i think it is like this :
ambush normal dmg without spec and talents is : x
ambush total dmg is : x+0.15*x+0.3*(x+0.15*x)
STILL Backstab crit multiplier is 230% with Lethality compared with Ambush that has only 200%

ambush/backstab works just fine, and you forgot to count damage reduction from armor/resil ...

Rogue have LOW damage the burst damage its way to low i am full gear cata and i crit 10/15k players the holy palas / shamy healers dont need to make 1 cast to have 100% HP and you come here to tell me my damage its good ?.... and bdw the energy regen its again NOT wroking (again low damage)

sorry bro you too mad, i ain`t playin feral... i play rogue so cut the crap if you are full cataclysmic and you do next to 0 damage then you suck as hell;)
and you want to do what? to crit 30k backstab/ambush holypala/resto shammy? again cut the crap:)
and other rogues can confirm that both ambush/backstab works 90% fine, if you still cry about this go blizz, this ain`t blizz so we have to accept what we have:)

Ambush and BS works pretty well , 20-35 k on clothers (~3.9 k res) and plate classes 10-20 k (~4.5 k res) .

I AM FULL Cataclysmic
i have ON 2x TRINKETS 2419 AGILITY and other one 1452 and Swordguard (400 atackpower from tailoring) = BURST and i make that crit and its VERRY LOW cuz on 4.0.6 with LOWEST gear the burst waz 25/35k !!!!!!! please understand what means CLASS BURST !!!!!
i am not good in formulas but i am 100% SHURE its bugged = low damage
