The quest works. I also thought that it doesn't, but it does. When you click the ward you have to pay attention. Another flameward will spawn on it and you just have to right click on the text dialogue on it and it will complete you your quest. I don't know if the flameward has a spawn time or something like that, but it works. Not like on retail, but it does.
