I'm really clueless when it comes to PvP. You should probably wait for live realm with all the fixes made on PTR before PvP can even be discussed.

Almost every expansion unholy was better then frost, but at the end gear, and I assure you that with the trinket from Gul'Dan that scales with the unholy mastery, it will be over frost. One of my guildmates from blizz is waiting for that trinket so he can change to unholy.

Here is hoping they are currently one of the top3 lowest DPS and frost is top3 highest DPS according to WoW logs. This is sad cuz i really love gameplay of unholy

Lets hope at least that the difference won't be as big as it is in MoP, on Freakz i mean. I myself always played frost, no matter the damage output of the spec, so i hope that on Legion it will be competitive.

I m playing on blizard now as a frost dk .. on Pve frost goes crazy with breath of sindragosa

specialy if u have the ledendary ring you can double the burst time with it

, as for pvp most of dks say that unholy is better sincer they nerfed the breath spec for PVP .. can t wait for the PTR to test the class and lots of things

For 7.1.5, statistically frost dk is more competitive than unholy. They are good enough.

I really don't know how things changed now, but before 7.1.5, unholy was better with low gear, but frost tended to be better later in game. Unholy has some kind of downsides, the rotation is more complex than frost so it's a bit harder to master, you really need to roll a good legendary to keep up with other classes, the RNG just kills that class, it's dumb. First people that done +14/+15 mythics had FDK's in their comp because they had much AOE damage and also very good one target DPS. Frost is currently doing great DPS. I didn't play this spec because I found the playstyle/rotation very boring, but if you enjoy playing it then I would advise you go frost over UH. http://www.wowbis.net/wow-dps-ranking/

PvP Wise - Unholy would still be the best choice at high rate arenas 2s & 3s. Even in Battlegrounds i would still play Unholy, we'll see...

PvE Wise - At the beginning Frost would be very powerful in dungeons and even in Raids will be pretty insane after that Breath of Sindragosa nerf.

This is just my opinion but i think Unholy would be more viable in PvP, and Frost would be more viable in PvE.

If you are new to dk, i advice you to play Frost in PvP at the beginning because Unholy even on Legion it's a spec that's pretty hard to master and it takes a little bit of time, patience and dedication.
