Basically, playing pet classes in PvE is a handicap because you lose your pet as soon as the boss does AoE, which can be a problem if your summon is on a 1 minute cooldown and does upwards of 30% of our DPS. IIRC, theres a mechanic/script that pets take reduced or no damage from AoE PvE sources, ie. Nythendra Rot or sanguine affix pools.

This is a known issue that affects all pets. Duplicate.
