Questions regarding the setup to play Legion

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and to wow-freakz and I'm having a hard time understanding the reason for the complex setup for playing Legion.

Is there any information clearly stating why do we need to remove the "Read only" from the data folder? (why doesn't it come like that?).
Also, why do we need a separate download for a custom launcher, and how and why was it customized?

Please don't get me wrong, I really want to start playing here with a group of friends. However this different setup from other private servers I've been on and the fact that I don't find the answers to the questions above anywhere (which, for me, should be in very big letters in a very highlighted post) is just ticking me the wrong way.

You can follow the steps provided here (as they are not complex) to connect to our server(including the game download).

Removing "read-only" from the Data folder helps you keep certain settings you make changes to ingame so you don't have to adjust them everytime you enter the game.
Private servers each have an own launcher so the game can run with the game due to numerous factors.

This makes sense, still don't get why it doesn't come without that option.

Because "a number of reasons" is vague enough to go from "to bypass blizzard mechanism that would stop you from playing" to "keylog everything you type" to "mine bitcoin".

It depends on each server's configuration for the game to run outside the original Blizz files.

I'm also interested in technical description of the Launcher app. Why is needed to run the launcher in background during play? It sending some statistical data to the server etc.? Most private servers based on TrinityCore just use modified retail client and no launcher is needed to play.
Maybe consider to share source code of the launcher for transparity, because many people are worried about what the launcher is doing.
