From what ive read , its not supposed to reduce Ranged attack power , just like Demoralizating shout , heres a blue quote on that.


Finally, we are replacing the current effect of Vindication with an attack power debuff that works like Demoralizing Shout. In PvP, Ret paladins can still debuff melee targets, while in PvE they can provide another necessary debuff in the case that the tank is not a warrior or druid. In addition, the talent may be more attractive to Protection paladins.

Actually the Vindication change was this: "Vindication: Redesigned. Now lowers target attack power, is consistent and does not stack with Demoralizing Shout." - That's it. Before the 3.2 change it would reduce attributes. The changelog does not specify that it no longer provides a debuff to ranged attack power. And besides, the words you got were from before patch 3.2 and the WoWWiki page was updated AFTER the appliance of the 3.2 patch. + It is specified in the demoralizing shout's tooltip that it decreased only melee attack power. And your argument of equating the two because they don't stack won't work - it was made that way to be balanced in PVE, also Vindication also doesn't stack neither Demoralizing Roar nor Curse of Weakness - again the step was taken mostly for PVE balancing purposes, because mob AP with DPS scales differently from player AP with DPS.

Your info is outdated. The table clearly states (taken from wowwiki) that Vindication provides the debuff to both melee and ranged attack power and that the others don't. Besides - this isn't the first time that Blizzard developers didn't reiterate on an issue fully. And don't start with the wowwiki is not retail argument because they only add proven information, even though some of it may be outdated - considering our current subject it should not be an issue because the changelogs show us no change.

Attack power reduction (melee and ranged)
[Vindication]: Scales with level, -574 fully talented @ level 80.

Attack power reduction (melee only)
[Demoralizing Roar]: -408 @ max rank (~571.2 fully talented with [Feral Aggression], a tier 1 Feral Combat talent with 5 ranks), Bear Form and Dire Bear form only.
[Demoralizing Screech]: Carrion Bird ability, -410 @ max rank.
[Curse of Weakness]: -478 @ max rank (573 fully talented w/ [Improved Curse of Weakness], a tier 2 Affliction talent with 2 ranks), also reduces armor.
[Demoralizing Shout]: -410 @ max rank (-574 fully talented with [Improved Demoralizing Shout], a tier 2 Fury talent with 5 ranks).

Vindication only decreases MELEE attack power, here are its mechanics:

In aura mechanics, SPELL_AURA_MOD_ATTACK_POWER stands for MELEE AP and SPELL_AURA_MOD_RANGED_ATTACK_POWER stands for ranged
