Hello, fellow throat cutters! I just started to get geared on my rogue, assassination, going mindless for mastery because it's the best. At some point I though to look at the 7.2.5 changes because the patch is knocking at the door. I was somehow dissapointed to see that agonizing poison is getting removed and sin is going to be stronger playing with bleeds. Sub and outlaw are getting buffed. What is the best spec for the next patch? I don't have enough time to grind ap for all three artifacts. What are your thoughts guys?

Personally, I think from now till late december/early january theres plenty of time to get your artifact to at least 35-40 depending on how much time you really commit into gaining artifact power. Another thing to consider also is when 7.2.5 releases you will be getting a new batch of Artifact Knowledge i think at first it went up to 30 or 40? Might wanna double check that. But Artifact Knowledge 26 gives you 100,000% increased Artifact Power gain rather then being AK 25 currently and only getting 24,900%. So you'll be able to catch up fairly quickly.

However, even though agonizing poison is being removed its being replaced with Toxic Blade which will still perform better overall than playing bleed build for assassination.

If you wanna know what the "best spec" for post progress or if your fully donated it will be sub due to the addition of new legendaries as well as overall buff's to the spec. You'll probably wanna still continue playing assassination until you get both legendaries ( if you dont already have them ) and your 4 piece for sub.

As far as outlaw goes it didn't really have a place in 7.2.5 or TOS in general back then, so just going based off what i've experienced from retail you probably wont find yourself playing outlaw very much other then wanting to play it cause its alot of fun -

I do enjoy posts like this so hopefully this thread can continue and help inform other rogues that are curious about the up coming patch -

the thing isn't about going for 35 or 40 traits, doing that with AK 25 is a true piece of cake.

You can make pretty easily 2 traits every day with AK 25 until the 50th traits (depends of the played time of course).

The thing is about the hard reset at the 7.2.5 if you up a spec at level 54 and dont play it is boring as *** to grind the new traits.

for the 36th traits you need 10 000 000 AP under 7.2.5 when we need only 1 900 000 under 7.1.5.

Ok with ak 26 we win 100k% instead of 24900 with ak 25 but the amount required is *5 when we win only *4, so if he can have 4 traits for free at the release of 7.2.5 he wont spit on it.

For the note :

Well,
in patch 7.2.5 are assa and sub almost same balanced, but with better gear, sub will scale better so you will get better dps.
But i think sub is little bit harder to play correctly, if i compared it with assa.
So if you are just casual player you can play what you enjoy, because before you will have near bis equip you do not see much diferences.

In my opinion mastered outlaw player will still do more dps than geared casual sub player.

Hey!
Let me start of by saying that rogue is a very complex class, but since you're already playing one you must have noticed that aswell. All rogue specs have different strenghts and weaknesses.
Assassination rogue will stay very good in 7.2.5, right now in 7.1.5 it has the highest single target damage of all classes and all specs. This will only slightly change as assassination will remain in top 5 specs when it comes to deleting bosses.

Outlaw is currently very bad, your skill level doesn't even matter that much. The only time this spec is somewhat viable is when you roll all possible buffs (which is very unlikely). Now don't get me wrong, this spec is a lot of fun, it's very useful while running around Azeroth or just casualy exploring. But for high end pvp/pve, you won't find any success with this spec, cause it just falls behind the other 2 to much. In 7.2.5 Outlaw gets slightly buffed, they added probabilites that make it easier to get more + better buffs from roll the bones. With just this change and a few others the spec is a bit more balanced and can atleast compete with other classes.

Subtlety is in the middle of the pack when it comes to dealing damage at the moment. Like outlaw, it is pretty much pointless to play it for high end pve at the moment, just because assassination is so strong. However this all changes in 7.2.5. Subtlety gets completely reworked and it goes from the middle of the pack to the N1 single target dps spec in the game. And when I say this, it goes to N1 by far. No other spec/class rivaled sub when it came to single target damage. Sub is extremely useful for m+ raids and pvp, since it has such strong priority damage and target swaping doesn't really hurt it.

So to draw a conclusion, Sub will be by far the best spec for pve and it is worth investing the time into learing and playing it. Sub is however the hardest spec to play in the game (That's my opinion atleast), Im ofcourse saying the 'hardest' in terms of playing the spec to 'perfection' and using all the tools and tricks in it's kit.

Assassination gets changed, but it remains extremely viable and will be the prefered spec even over subtlety on some bosses in Tomb of Sargeras. Assassination is also the best rogue pvp spec in 7.2.5

And than sadly we have outlaw rogue. Again, don't get me wrong. This is a great spec, but it is just so unlucky that it has to compete with Sub and Assassination. You will almost never use this spec when it comes to high end pve content, it just doesn't give the user and the raid/dungeon group nearly as much as the other 2 specs. If you enjoy playing it and you're not interested in always having the highest dps in the group, than feel free to play Outlaw. It's a very fun spec, it feels extremely versatile, since it gives you many options on how to play it.

I hope this answers your question, if not, let me know in a reply and i'll get back to you as soon as I can.
