since 5 years ago the spell didnt get any spell mechanical changes.
this are the only patch changes in years.

MoP Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Now causes damage absorbed to generate Runic Power. Runic Power cost removed.
WotLK Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): The tooltip for this ability will now reflect modifications from the [Magic Suppression] talent.
WotLK Patch 3.1.2 (2009-05-19): Tooltip error corrected.
WotLK Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): The cooldown has been lowered to 45 sec from 60 sec.
WotLK Patch 3.0.3 (2008-11-04): Added.

the school spell is for diminishing return purpose.

as i tould you before even some stuns are "physical school" and they dont aply throw anti magic shell even they are "physical school"
that is for a reson to act and behave in terms of diminishing return.

Silencing Shot it's a physical school damage, however the DoT that applies is a Magic Debuff. (Btw durham, i think it's ridiculous that DoTs can be applied even with AMS on, though Curses/Poisons/Diseases can go through it, i made some resource on wowhead)

So if a hunter uses this skill while a dk has AMS on, the debuff shouldn't be applied and the Skill's cd should be lost (Just like when a dk uses strangulate on another dk that has AMS on.)
