EDIT: Finished testing the models, fortunately they cause no critical errors. Unfortunately they are not completely problem-free. Made a detailed guide here: https://forum.wow-freakz.com/WoD-HD-models-for-5.4.8-t355346.html <-Follow this link, info in this thread might be outdated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have recently found out that it is possible to use the new Warlords of Draenor character models in Mists of Pandaria (and even Wrath of the Lich King but that doesn't matter). I know that this feature is client-side, BUT it requires support and intervention from server staff as well (or from the community), which is the reason why I'm posting here. Therefore, for those models to work, we need a modified wow.exe that will allow custom MPQ files to be used, because nowadays blizzard has implemented a "security" feature that only allows MPQ files bearing their signature to be loaded by the game - this signature check needs to be removed, and I also read somewhere that the patch number limitation needs to be removed as well.

We cannot simply use another server's modified wow.exe since they will only allow connection to their own server.

It would be a great feature for us to have at MoP launch, especially since it's becoming more popular among MoP servers (I've already seen 3 servers supporting this, but I won't mention their names - don't wanna risk getting banned for advertising), and it will allow us to keep a competitive edge and maybe bring more players. I have personally tested this feature on their servers, it works for all character models and NPCs (except blood elf since blizzard hasn't officially released them yet) and I didn't notice any animation or texture bugs. The installation process for those models is as simple as downloading a zip file and extracting its contents into wow's data folder - the only downside is that the files are about 2 GBs, but it still should be accessible to a lot of people.

I think people can actually do this by themselves, look at this: https://forum.wow-freakz.com/New-wod-models-t325941-60.html

The models ain't perfect, but he added a modified "wow.exe" file in case it doesn't work with the default "wow.exe", i'm guessing that MPQ file permission can be removed easily, but i'm just assuming.

Here you go.
That has signature checking disabled and then patched with Project SkyFire connection patcher.
I didn't test it very much so things might happen.

Yeah, I already know about those models. It might be easy for them to modify the exe, but not for me, I don't have any programming knowledge - that's why I'm posting here.

Thanks, I'm going to test that as soon as I can. I'm not 100% sure it's going to work on Freakz tho, since I heard they're going to use Trinity Core and not Skyfire (I've read somewhere that they're looking for developers that know how to work with Trinity Core for MoP), but if I manage to get PTR access I'm going to try it out.

UPDATE: I have tested your exe on another 5.4.8 server and the models work for both players and NPCs:

If this is going to work when Freakz MoP goes live, I'm going to post an installation guide.

EDIT: THIS POST IS OLD, SEE THE POSTS BELOW FOR AN UPDATE

The models are working on MoP PTR: http://i.imgur.com/a0rRr3J.jpg

I would rather wait until MoP goes live (on Genesis) to make a guide. In the meantime, I will test them for potential bugs or errors.

Anyway, if you want to give them a try right now, you can download them here: (LINK REMOVED. Go HERE instead.)
IMPORTANT: The .exe included in that file is for 64-bit Windows only. For 32-bit version, see the post below (.exe only, no models included)

Known bugs so far:
- The models randomly change facial expressions while mounted. - FIXED
- The 64bit .exe provided crashes in a certain area (here - The Imperial Granary in Valley of the Four Winds) with this error. The crash does NOT happen because of the models, I removed them and logged in with the 64bit exe, still had the crash. Logged in with the normal .exe provided by freakz, and with the 32-bit exe from below, and got no crash.

Until MoP goes live, I will post updates in this thread.

Here you go: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/965853/Wow_nosig.exe
And about the crash. It happens in the non-edited version too so disabling the MPQ signature check is not the problem.
To put it differently: You can visit that area or use the 64-bit exe but not both.

I actually tested it this time: http://i.imgur.com/PTLAG2o.jpg

Thanks. I tested your .exe and you were right, using the 32-bit version will not cause the error, so signature removal was not the issue.

Update is here:

(LINK REMOVED. Go HERE instead.)

IF YOU ALREADY INSTALLED THE OLD FILES:
1. Go to your WoW folder.
2. Go to Data / enGB
3. Delete these 3 files:

wow-update-enGB-18274
wow-update-enGB-18275
wow-update-enGB-18726

Then proceed to installing the new files as normally.
