Is it possible to be attacked by another player when you are not PVP enabled?

I'm a noob so bear with me. Can you be attacked by other players if you have the PvP toggle on disable? Or is it making no difference? I'm curious because I just got killed twice by the same person and I dont have PvP enabled.

You may have hit someone that was flagged for pvp, and the PvP toggle does not do that, it just forces you to be in pvp. There are also some abilities that flag you for pvp (Shadowmeld comes to mind (Why does that happen?) but there might be more) and that can be messy.

I'm pretty sure I haven't attacked anyone. The closest thing to PvP was watching some horde guys getting killed by the guards in Goldshire. Although it happened right before me getting killed. Also the only thing that "faded" from me was the dreadsteed (I'm a warlock). Not sure if any pvp flagging abilities show in the combat log as "fading" when you die.

You're also being marked for PvP when you heal or buff any friendly target that has PvP enabled.

If your pet is on Defensive (or Aggressive), it might have attacked the player who was flagged for PvP, and that would flag you too. Also, you could have used some AoE spell while that player was in the area/range of it.

Same thing goes for you.read up.Maybe he didnt attacked anyone however hes pet did.
As a warlock if u used shadow stun thingy and if there is a horde guy with pvp on in its range you will get PvP flag,sometimes pets are getting out of control and also attacking horde guys.even on defensive,Howl of Terror(AoE fear aswell)

There's a bug with pets on defensive, if you use AoE on that player and the pet, you'll get flagged for PvP and the pet will start attacking you, flagging the 2nd player too.
