Bug description: Extreme variations in damage.
Proof:

^ Using two Cleavers brought from Orgrimmar. On lower damage values, there isn't a very big difference between minimum/maximum hit and minimum/maximum critical hit.

^ Using two Claws of Shek'zeer enchanted with Dancing Steel/Bloody Dancing Steel. Just look at the difference between minimum and maximum hits/crits. The variation in damage is INSANE. 90k Difference between minimum and maximum crit.
For the first screenshot, I tested with two Cleavers, mainhand enchanted with Windfury and offhand with Flametongue, each Lava Lash at 5 stacks of Searing Flames.
For the second screenshot, I tested with two Claws, mainhand enchanted with Windfury/Bloody Dancing Steel and offhand with Flametongue/Dancing Steel. Each Lava Lash was casted during both proccs of Dancing Steel and at 5 stacks of Searing Flames.
I did take off my Trinkets for the tests.

El se afla pe Serpent's Spine la vendorul de Honor/Conquest, asta nu inseamna ca a facut Gate of the Setting Sun. Si chiar daca il facea, avea hituri mullt mai mari cu Lava Lash in recount (nu uita ca Broken Carapace ofera 300% increase). Nu cred ca s-a abtinut sa dea Lava Lash in Broken Carapace doar ca sa ne induca in eroare.

The damage from lava lash min max with 517 is quite weird like Erudax said , but it doesnt actually go that low .

Tested with two Zeeg's Ancient Kegsmashers and the damage is roughly the same (keep in mind that I'm fully BIS) even though I have much more agility and mastery than on the last patch. Sometimes I'm hitting 130k on x2 Dancing Steel and x5 Searing Flames, sometimes 170k. Something is definetly wrong.

Confirm , @Shocker please if its possible to recheck the formula or something as erudax said there is no difference between bis 5.1 and 5.2 , i also noticed no boost or not even much with a 9K agility trinket proc and higher weapons.

On 5 Searing Flames without any Dancing Steel procc.
Not only I'm hitting lower than last phase, but I'm actually dealing less damage when I have proccs.

Confirm. I just checked my dps and sometimes I saw full procs lava lash crit for ~310k , and then without any procs lava lash crit ~ 410k so I decided to make a proof.
Here you can see no crit no buff lava with 5 stacks.

Before moving it to Confirmed, I'd like more opinions/tests. There is definetly something wrong, and I'd hate making a wrong post without finding or at least be close to finidng the source of the problem.

First of all thanks to Ventress90 for some links/ideas and PTR help.





I got a 70000 difference.

I tried to make an exact replica of Erudax's test, using his Armory items and Claws. Put full mastery gems. It's not a perfect mirror, because I have to upgrade items and enchants and bla bla.

The formula I found for Lava Lash: 300% * 0,5 * Normalized_weapon_damage * Multipliers source source source (wowhead link)

Normalized wep damage = base wep dmg + (X * Attack Power / 14), where X for non dagger one hand is = 2.4
I used Claws, which has dmg 6807 - 12643. Attack Power = 40829

So NormalizedWepDmg = 6807 + (2.4 * 40829/14) = 13806
12643 + (2.4 * 40829/14) = 19642
Difference is 5836, keep it in mind for later.

Now for the actual LL damage.
For Multipliers I used: 1.7 (70% mastery), 2 (5 stacks of Searing Flames), 1.4 (Flametongue dmg increase), 1.07 (Flametongue spell damage increase)
The 0.5 is 50% penalty.

LL_min = 3 * 0.5 * 13806 * 1.7 * 2 * 1.4 * 1.07 = 105475
LL_max = 3 * 0.5 * 19642* 1.7 * 2 * 1.4 * 1.07 = 150060

That's around 45000 damage difference between min and max. For a crit strike it's double, so 90000.
Remember that 5836 difference I talked about, well when you keep adding multipliers, it grows. If you'd not use Flametongue for example, the 45000 difference will decrease a lot. If you'd add raid buffs and boss debuffs, the difference will increase like crazy.


I also did some math with SoO weapon and half a gear. The difference was 11500. In the end, the HIT was between 236376 and 394068. Make it a crit and you'll have 300k+ difference.


I went on SimCraft and tested BiS 5.2 and 5.4:

Look at those crit differences. 400k+ in SoO gear.

I did a SimC with BiS 5.2 gear and our mode of testing:


To prove SimC does like we do with Searing Flames, look at the uptime of the stacks. If it would use LL at anything else than 5 stacks, the stacks 1-4 wouldn't have 15% uptime. One would be lower.


Also found a thread from 5.2 times.

1. Hit 30 (60%) (Min: 47771 Avg: 81778 Max: 109953)
2. Crit 12 (24%) (Min: 136627 Avg: 180013 Max: 210995)
3. Hit (Blocked) 5 (10%) (Min: 51866 Avg: 59813 Max: 71200)

He has LFR gear and fugly weps, yet look at that difference.



If you guys would provide me with your buffed AP(from the test) and your mastery, we can do some math based on that and see if your hits are between that segment.


Conclusion, imho, the spell works as intended. The HUGE difference is because of weapon damage difference. The bigger the gap, the bigger min max difference because of Multipliers.

I'm still confused. Is this report about the huge difference between min and max or the fact that even with better gear your LL hits the same or lower?

Let's say you clarified the difference in damage. There is only the other part, the gear and proccs, to be done with. I believe my first post and RideOrDie's post should be enough proof.
