It'll be a separate bracket. One or two players join as party or solo, they are matched up between their solo q MMR. And since the solo queue rating won't be ''visible'' anywhere in the game, you could change that the 5v5 rating ingame = the soloQ rating on the ladder. It will have a separate ranking and a different reward system ( mainly top 10 ( if it gets populated )), rewards being titles in the beginning ( EX: Vanquisher, The Flawless Victor, Battlemaster, of the Alliance, of the Horde, etc. ( I can also help with choosing the titles. )). Since 5v5 is extremely rarely played ( 1 / 2 times in 2 months or never ), it won't hurt anything.



LE: I managed to find a print from arena tournament with the solo queue cataclysm ladder: . This is how it looked like. Each player ranked by their name, class icon, Rating, Wins & Loses.

Also, the player group system should work exactly as the '' .join raid '' system. What i mean by this is that if a horde player gets in a 3s match via solo queue with 2 alliance players as his party memebers it should work exactly the same way, no exploits / bugs to attack each other in the preparation room or after the gates are opened, such things should be checked before the solo q original release.

^ the best post here so far.Duo Queue must be a part of this feature in my opinion,the guy above gave all the information you need in order to make it the proper way.Btw,in previous expansions people had teams in 2v2/3v3/5v5 and they had to make it MoP-style as separate bracket.Now you only need to make the 5v5 bracket match with Solo Queue like the guy said and it will be even easier for you since all brackets are already separate.

Agree with mental^depress. Just replace 5v5 with solo q and make it crossfaction. You que up, get matched with 2 random players of similar mmr/rate and climb. Have solo q bracket displayed on armory instead of 5v5. Reward top 10 players or so when season ends.
OH, and duo queue is horrible idea, it is not fun since it ruins whole idea of SOLO QUE. 2 premade +1 random players are always going to have advantage over 3 solo que guys. If you wanna play with friends just play 3s/2s. And yes i expect you to say "AT HAD DUO QUE WHY WOULDN'T WE HAVE IT RAWR" but we can do better than they did ( after all they died cuz of stubbornness) .
No offense but people that are asking for duo are either scared of playing by themselves or they don't understand point of SOLO Q.

There's only 1 issue remaining: how big should the solo que groups be? 2v2 or 3v3? Why one, why the other?
Since we will be using the 5v5 bracket (a single bracket), we can't allow players to join both 2v2 and 3v3 solo queue Thinking

I would say 3v3. Freakz never had problems with 2s popularity in mop. Its mostly 3s really. Even now you can see that r1 is 1800 rated even tho reset was like long time ago.

2vs2 solo que as skirmish without rating and 3vs3 with rating in place of 5vs5 bracket.
Moreover, as Sumoo said make it only SOLO que because that's the main point of this idea - you play with random people, not premade duo groups.

I would say.. only 3v3 solo queue. Because the 2v2 ladder is very populated and who wants to do 2s can find a partner very easy.
So 3v3 in a crossfaction way. As mental^depress said.. this should be very carefully tested so that players from other faction can't do damage to their own teammates - includes aoe and pets.
1 healer+2ps only comps.
Just solo queue. I think that dual queue is a horrible idea because the ones who enter in dual queue would have an advantage over the others who randomly get together. With dual queue it would be like in battlegrounds where one side contains a premade group - and that side wins almost every time.

It's going to be like mentioned above:
- 2v2 no rating (I will think about honor/gold/etc rewards or not... main reason I'm still thinking about this are exploiters/traders/etc)
- 3v3 with rating, will replace the 5v5 bracket (which will no longer be available) and will have a separate section on the armory leaderboard (something like 2v2 / 3v3 / 3v3 solo)
Yes, it will be crossfaction.
Already working on it, the main functionality is already done, the hard part is the matchmaking algorithm

Also,is it going to be Melee/Caster/Healer only or you will allow double casters / melees get matched with healers too?

I don't think I'll spend too much time with such restrictions, at least not at first. For normal arenas finding 2 teams with the same MMR is ~easy, but for solo queue it needs to match together 6 players with the ~same MMR and on top of that extra restrictions like no 3 healers/etc? Not sure if I'm going to complicate it that much

Just one restriction. The team should be generated from 1 healer and 2 dps.
I honestly don't know how this would be done.
Maybe when you queue you have to choose either join as a dps or join as a healer.
What Noddcrack says about generating only healer-melee-range teams makes sense because that are the most interesting teams to play and to play against but.. I think there is a problem with that - the high majority of dps characters that would join would be melee - wars and dk's mostly ..so I think you would spend to much time waiting for a range dps to queue(keep in mind he should be close to your mmr)
Bottom line.. I think this team generating thing is kind of a big deal.
Playing triple dps, double healer or tripple healer is no fun for both the ones who play it or the ones who play against it and could ruin the experience.
